Tears started streaming down your face when we heard a rain of gunshots. We can both hear the screams of agony from the villagers, crying for help to save them from torture. But no matter how many times we begged and pleaded for us to be saved, we were still ignored. The more we scream, the more we are tortured.Bullets were flying everywhere as the sound of firing and explosions were getting louder and nearer. Blood and dead bodies flooded the village. The village where we always felt welcome and a safe haven to live was now attacked by an unknown group of people.
Your hug tightens every time a gunshot is heard. I pulled you close and hushed you as you cried silently in my arms. I shakily whispered assuring and calming words to soothe you.
"Just close your eyes,
the sun is going down.
You'll be alright,
no one can hurt you now.
Come morning light,
you and I'll be safe and sound."
I whispered more words for you to calm down, and it worked. The war outside keeps raging on. We can no longer hear violent drops of bombs, but the gunshots are still there.
Suddenly, huge and heavy steps were heard outside. People were banging on our locked door. We panicked and silently crouched in the small place we were hiding in. A large "bang" was heard, and the heavy footsteps were getting nearer.
It was then that time, I whispered to you while a tear escaped my eye.
"You and I will be safe & sound..."
I smiled and hugged you tight once again as the room was filled with two loud echoing gunshots.
