Greyson pov
I was engrossed in paperwork, my pen scratching across the page, when a knock at the door broke the silence. I set my pen down and rose from my chair to answer it. Officer Cullens stood on the other side, a hint of amusement on his face.
"Cullens, why can't you shine in the sun?" I asked, grinning.
"Not today, Greyson," he replied, shaking his head.
I chuckled. "Oh, come on, when I see you, I have to make a Twilight joke."
Cullens rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "Your fiancée wants you in the ER."
My heart skipped a beat. "What, why, what happened?" I asked, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios. My fiancée, Blake, is a police officer, and the thought of her getting hurt on the job was always a concern.
Cullens burst out laughing. "I'm joking. She's in her office."
I felt a wave of relief wash over me, followed by annoyance. I playfully hit Cullens on the head. "Don't do that again. That's not funny at all."
Cullens doubled over, laughing. "You should have seen your face!"
I walked past him, hitting him on the shoulder. The laughter stopped abruptly.
As I walked to Blake's office, I saw her standing by the door, a bright smile on her face. Her smile has always had the power to take my breath away. When I reached her, I swept her off her feet, and she wrapped her arms around me, her legs circling my waist.
I kissed her lips, feeling the softness and warmth that always left me wanting more. She melted into my kiss, her body relaxing into mine. When we pulled away, she blushed and hid her face in my chest.
I gently removed her bun and ran my fingers through her hair, a gentle caress that always brought her comfort. She loved it when I played with her hair, and I loved seeing the relaxed, happy look on her face.
"Greyson," Blake whispered into my chest.
"Yes, darling?" I replied, lifting her head up with a gentle finger under her chin.
Her big brown eyes looked up at me, sparkling with curiosity. "Your friend Carter... was his sister's name Harper?"
I felt a jolt of surprise at the question. Why was Blake asking about Harper? What did she know? I looked into her eyes, searching for answers, but all I saw was innocence and curiosity.
Harper was my best friend Carter's little sister. She was always following me around, and at first, I didn't understand why. But as time passed, I grew accustomed to her constant presence. I'd rock her to sleep when she cried or was ready for bed. She'd cling to me, and I'd hold her close, feeling a deep sense of responsibility and affection for her.
But one fateful night, tragedy struck. One of their bodyguards took Harper, and she vanished into thin air. We've been searching for her ever since, leaving no stone unturned.
That's why Blake and I are at the station today. Blake's a police officer, and we're still holding onto hope that Harper will come home. We've been waiting for what feels like an eternity, and every lead, every tip, every possibility is pursued with relentless determination.
Blake's question catches me off guard. "Yeah, his sister's name is Harper. Why are you asking this?" I set Blake down on her feet, my mind racing with anticipation.
Blake takes a deep breath before explaining. "Because today I got called to a possible abuse case, and when I got there, there was a girl hiding in a closet. She said her name was Harper, She looks a little like Elliot." Blake's words hang in the air, and I feel my heart skip a beat. Could it be? Could Harper finally be coming home?
"Can I see her?" I asked, trying to move around Blake, but she grasped my arm, holding me back.
"She's sleeping, but after, I can tell her that we need to run a test," Blake said quickly, her words tumbling out in a rapid-fire sequence. It was a quirk of hers that I'd grown accustomed to over time. When we first met, I'd struggled to keep up with her fast-paced speech, but now I was attuned to her rhythm.
"DNA test?" I asked, seeking clarification.
Blake nodded, her eyes locked on mine.
"Okay, I'll see you then. I'll be at the lab," I said, my mind racing with possibilities. The prospect of finally finding Harper after all these years was almost too much to bear. I needed to see her, to know that she was safe and sound.
