Wayne and I stop in front of a trailer. It isn't big or anything like I'm used to, but I have to understand that my whole life has gone to hell. Wayne leads me inside. The living room is clean with shelves upon shelves of coffee mugs and ball caps, clearly something he collects.
"It ain't much, but it's home. Living room, kitchen." He leads me down the hallway that holds three doors. "Bathroom, that one is Eddie's room, and that back room will be yours. I just need to clear my things out of it." I nod quietly.
"Thank you, Wayne. I really appreciate you taking me in." I smile weakly. I don't have much in the way of clothing or anything from home, so I'll have to figure it out.
"You're welcome, kid. It ain't fair to leave a kid out in the world alone." He sighs. "So what happened to your folks?"
"I don't know. I shifted for the first time yesterday, and my hair turned into this, My dad and mom started to fight this morning, and my dad kicked me out." My voice shakes slightly, I barely understand it.
"Ah, your dad is an Alpha."
"Yeah."
"He's assuming that she cheated, or something worse, but most Alphas carry the gene. It's just recessive."
"But my mom's hair is the same chestnut brown." I look at him confused.
"Ah, well then, I dunno. I'm not a doctor or anything like that." I shrug in response to that. Wayne has me chill out on the couch as he clears out the room. After a few hours, I see that only the bed remains. "We'll go into town and get some things for you. Sound good?" I nod, surprised that he's being so nice to me. I set the backpack down on the bed. I hadn't noticed that the front pocket seemed full of something. I open the pocket and see that it's full of cash. Where the hell did that come from? I knew my parents were well off, especially my mom, as my grandparents were loaded and all that money went to her when they passed. The cash is clearly a large amount, and all 100 dollar bills. Wayne had walked off to the living room to rearrange things, so I don't feel like he's hovering over me. I pull the large stack out and count it. 250, so that's 25,000 dollars. Where did this even come from? I don't know what happened to my mom. My dad probably will have no clue. You know what, screw it, it was a gift to me. An apology for kicking me out. I take a small stack of the bills, just about 10 of them. That should be more than enough to furnish this room and get me a new wardrobe. I fold the bills up and put them in my back pocket, then think it's a bad spot and move them to my front pocket. I don't have a bra to put them in or something like that.
