A couple of minutes went by before I spoke up. “Liam, can we go somewhere else before we go back to your house?” It didn’t feel right calling it my house yet.
“Sure love. Where?” I thought for a moment before telling him one of my favorite places to hang out with Sean and Hayley. About five minutes later, we were pulling into the parking lot of a ice cream shop. It was on the outskirts of town and not very well known, so it was our favorite place to hang out.
Liam and I got out of his car and walked up to the window. The shop had seats outside, and the only way you were let inside was if you needed to use the restroom or you worked there. It kind of sucked because if people are getting ice cream, it’s usually boiling hot outside and then we have to sit on benches in the heat eating our ice cream. They have a roof with ceiling fans to try to keep it cooler outside, but it doesn’t usually work.
I ordered a plain vanilla ice cream and Liam ordered a chocolate ice cream. I pulled out money to pay for myself, but he stopped me.
“A gentleman always pays,” he said.
“Oh. I didn’t peg you as the gentlemen type.” I smirked at him before thanking him and sitting down on one of the benches. After he paid, he came back and sat down next to me, handing me my cone. I started eating my ice cream and we just sat there in silence. We didn’t really have much in common. Or at least not known.
Suddenly, a car that I recognized pulled into the bare parking lot. My two best friends got out of the car and walked into the shaded area. Hayley lifted her sunglasses and put them in her auburn hair and looked over at the only people here: us. She squealed and ran over to me, pulling me into a bear hug. When she released me, I was gasping for air. Sean came over to me and pulled me into another bear hug, not giving me any time to recover from Hayley’s attack. I pulled away gasping for sweet, sweet oxygen, while he laughed and ran his hand through is sun-bleached blond hair.
“I thought you were sick!” Hayley exclaimed. “That’s what Mr. Ross told me!”
I shook my head. “No, I was just… skipping school.”
“Ugh, you naughty girl.” Sean laughed.
“Excuse me. Who’s skipping 5th period right now?” I raised my eyebrows at them.
“Eh. I’m missing calculus. We’re learning pointless shit. Math stopped being useful in, like, seventh grade.” I heard soft snicker from behind me and remembered Liam.
“Oh, right. Guys, this is Liam,” I introduced. “Liam, this is Sean and Hayley.” I looked over at them and saw, not one, but both of my friends eying him up and down. I notice Liam shift uncomfortably under the intense gaze Hayley was giving him. She was like a piranha; if she saw something she liked, she would attack. I cleared my throat to break their staring and she pulled me to the side. Just then I noticed that I still had my ice cream as it was now on my fingers. I like the ice cream off my finger and heard a small groan coming from one of the guys behind Hayley and I. I turn around and see them engaging in a conversation and assumed it must’ve been my imagination.
“Okay, so if you want forgiveness for ditching me at school, then you have to chat me up for me. He is like seriously hot. Like oh my god. How have you not already ripped his clothes off? Or did you already and that’s why you weren’t at school? Because if you did, amen sister. You needed to get rid of those cobwebs growing down there anyway and he seems like the perfect guy to do that.” I rolled my eyes as she continued to drone on and on about what he could do in bed. Hayley lost her virginity when she was fifteen to a douchebag who broke up with her after they had sex. She’s nineteen and has been my best friend since we were probably nine or ten.
