Rengoku is dead
DEAD
I couldn't stop it. I just wish I could have done more. More than just watch, helplessly.
If only I had the power, the wisdom, the strength...
If only.
A cold wind came from the windows and blew through my dark-red hair and I was jolted from my thoughts. I knew we had to keep going. That's what Rengoku would have wanted. But it was all so irreal.
A hand reached out from behind me and grabbed my shoulder. I turned to see my younger sister, Nezuko, looking up at me with her large pink eyes. She tried to say something, but with her bamboo muzzle, she couldn't, instead she rubbed her head against my arm to comfort me. I had a small smile, and bent down to give her a hug.
I held her close. She was so innocent and pure....it hurt to think I couldn't protect her from the horrors of the world. Couldn't stop Muzan from turning her into a demon.
"Nezuko," I said, "don't worry. I'm here for you. I will always protect you, from anything and everything."
She tilted her head up to look at me, as if to say, "I know. And I will too"
I sighed deeply. For a moment, all was quiet.
Then, I heard the sound of voices in the distance. I gently set Nezuko down and turned to see my friends, Zenitsu and Inosuke, going towards us. My stomach twisted into knots.
Today was the day of the funeral
Despite Shinobu's protests and the pain we felt due to the serious injuries we had received during the fight with the train-demon, we had insisted on being present.
Even though I think I don't deserve it.
I had failed to save Rengoku. And I felt like it didn't matter if I went or stayed behind. But the thought of not being there to pay my respects to such a great man like him....it felt wrong, to my very core.
Yes. That's right. That's what we're going to do. Give our respects. Nothing more. Nothing less
"GONPACHIRO!" Inosuke yelled, as he ran up to me. Zenitsu followed behind him the best he could, trying to make him slow down.
