[Umi's POV]

He looks like he is contemplating the meaning of life right now as if Final Selection just crashed into his thoughts like a runaway train.

I'm not even surprised he forgot, since of course he would. Kyo and his selective memory strikes again ! I'm pretty sure we had talked about that a few weeks ago when he agreed to train me tough-

I guess demons must have trouble remembering things which is not surprising when you think about it. Maybe it's a side effect of the things happening in their blood. Regardless, I need to get my mentor's attention.

"Earth to Kyo. Final Selection, remember? The whole demon slayer thing we've been working towards?"

He blinked, staring into the distance. Is his fucking head empty or something ?

"Oh, right." He said after at least two minutes.

I raised an eyebrow. "You really forgot, didn't you?"

I should probably tell him what I know.

"Listen to this"I began, flipping through the worn pages of grandpa's journal I had taken out of my bag.

I cleared my throat dramatically and read aloud. "To enter the Demon Slayer Corps, one must pass the treacherous Final Selection. Only the strongest, bravest, and most skilled can hope to survive the ordeal."

"It sound familiar... if I was a demon slayer before, I guess I went through this"

"Eh thanks Sherlock for solving this mystery ."

He shot me a dark look (even darker than the sclera of his eyes!) but I continued reading, "The Final Selection is a grueling test held on Mt. Fujikasane. Demons infest the mountain, and candidates must survive for seven days. Those who make it through are officially inducted into the Demon Slayer Corps."

His expression shifted as the gravity of the situation sunk in. "So, you really want to participate in this Final Selection?"

I nodded. "Yeah. I think it's obvious, It's the next step in becoming a demon slayer. I need to prove myself, and Mt. Fujikasane is where it all happens."

Kyo's eyes bore into mine, concern flickering in their depths. I could tell he wanted to say something, but before he could say anything, I cut in.

"I know what you're thinking," I said, closing the journal and placing it on my lap. "But you can't come with me, the mountain where the Final Selection is held is filled with wisteria and the scent is toxic to demons. It could weaken you, or worse."
