Ch X - The Lost Days of Domovoi

OPEN ON:

INT. BELOS' CASTLE, OFFICER'S QUARTERS - NIGHT

[A squad of coven scouts are busy ransacking an officer's personal quarters. They open drawers, rustle through papers, and turn over furniture. While flipping over a mattress, one of the scouts discovers a leather-bound journal flopping onto the floor.]

COVEN SCOUT

Sir! I found something.

[A squad captain comes marching over and inspects the journal, flipping the pages in his hands. He opens it to the first entry.

As he reads, we hear a voice-over narrated by a deep, monotone male voice with a thick Russian accent.]

DOMOVOI (V.O.)

Twelfth of Chewn. Year of our Titan eight-hundred twenty. I, Agent Domovoi, head of Imperial Surweillance, have accepted special assignment directly from our glorious Emperor.

THEME SEQUENCE:

FADE IN:

INT. CASTLE DUNGEON, NIGHT

[Emperor Belos oversees the construction of his portal while Kikimora paces down a flight of stairs towards him.]

KIKIMORA

Sire, those miscreants are still at large. Please, allow me to capture them.

BELOS

Worry not, Kiki. We'll be keeping an eye on the inhabitants of the Owl House.

[Belos nods to a figure loitering in the shadows of a nearby passage. It appears to be a male demon of the same species as Kikimora. He is short, broad, dressed in dark leathers and likewise kees most of his face hidden behind a tall collar.

The demon nods back to Belos and disappears back down the passageway, Kikimora watching him go with a slightly peeved expression.]

INT. ARMORY

[We see several quick cuts of Agent Domovoi suiting up. He dons a fur-trimmed cape, a pair of sabers, an obscene array of knives and daggers he stashes in creative places on his person, as well as a purple, hand-held crystal ball.

He stares at the camera with cold determination.]

DOMOVOI (V.O.)

I shall not be of failing him.

CUT TO:

EXT. THE OWL HOUSE - MORNING

[We see the Owl House fam busy practicing their bounty-hunting skills on the front lawn with Luz recording for her mother back home.

The camera descends from that scene to a cross-section of the ground beneath the foundations of the house (replete with dinosaur skeletons, crashed UFOs, and tongue-in-cheek easter-egg references to other animated shows).

We also see Domovoi tunneling through the earth like a mole. He carves out a large chamber for himself, sets aside his miner's hat and unpacks his gear.]

DOMOVOI (V.O.)

Step one of Imperial reconnaissance procedure twenty-two dash sewen: "Establish safe-house in subterranean bivouac."

[He then adorns the cave will all manner of quaint furnishings. Throw-rugs, an antique lamp, a little bed and a framed portrait of an old lady demon entitled "Babushka".]

DOMOVOI (V.O.)

Step two: Begin remote observation.

[He takes the crystal ball from his pack and focuses into it. His eyes and Oracle Coven sigil glow purple as he channels its magic. Various scenes from the interior of the Owl House are displayed in the crystal ball's surface.]
