Miss Peregrine frowned at the Ymbrybe council's decisions. Although she still doubted Y/N's presence on order of the council, she had accepted that she was here to stay.
"Morning," she said as she entered the kitchen to find Y/N once again stood looking out the window.
"Morning," Y/N smiled back, looking at her and once again handing her the mug. She sipped it carefully and they both stood contented to look out of the window. Alma frowned.
"What's that I can smell?" She questioned, looking at Y/N who had a mischievous grin on her face.
"This," she said, as a timer went off, which she quickly shut off for fear of waking the children and having them emerge grumpy. Y/N pulled a fresh loaf of a bread out the oven, followed by two more, enough to feed a whole tribe of children. "I was thinking of making scrambled eggs this morning, but I woke up earlier than normal so decided to fill my time. I hope that's okay," Y/N suddenly looked worried, clearly a little spooked by Alma's silence.
"It smells amazing, thank you," she chased away Y/N's worry.
They ended up standing side by side cooking at the stove, while Y/N cooked the eggs as well as Alma's suggestion of sausages, the headmistress herself stood cooking some mushrooms, tomato, and bacon. It was set to be a feast. She could feel the faintest hint of Y/N's shoulder against hers, though missmached heights made them an interesting combination. Y/N was most definitely taller, but her presence wasn't one that imposed itself, but one that moulded it its surroundings.
Soon enough the table was set, the children were awake, the house was abuzz with laughter and life and the adults loved it. The children enjoyed the morning, all deciding it was a lazy Sunday, which Alma couldn't fault, she had been needing one of their Sundays for a while now.
They all took the time to just do nothing, some of the smaller children took to colouring, lying on the floor and swapping colours together. Meanwhile, the older children were reading some of the books in the library they didn't nearly make enough use out of.
Y/N took charge of the chores that still needed doing, allowing the children a real day of rest, while Alma was hold up in her study writing frantically and doing important paperwork.
"Come in," she said while finishing her sentence. Alma looked up to see Y/N enter, only to frown and check her watch. It was only 10:47am.
"There seems to be no end to your paperwork," she commented as she took a seat on the other side of her desk.
"Mmmm," Alma hummed in agreement, mind wandering off.
"Anyway, I just came to inform you that I have completed this morning's chores," Y/N leant back, thankful to sit for just a minute.
"Really?" Alma said, a little shocked.
"Yep."
"I'm thoroughly impressed," Alma said, rechecking her watch to confirm the time. Yes, it was still only 10:48am...
"What can I say? I'm efficient," Y/N said, about to stand and leave the office and Alma in piece.
"How are you finding staying here?" Alma asked, seeing Y/N about to leave. For whatever reason, she wanted to talk to the other woman, wanting to know her more.
"It's lovely," Y/N said honestly, settling back in her seat once more. "I have to say, it's much easier to navigate here than it was where I was previously living."
"Why's that?" Alma asked, confused as to why there should be a difference. "Where were you before?"
"I lived at the Ymbryne academy, though I didn't study there. They wanted to keep me there so they could 1. Protect the school and 2. Help deal with any trouble Between the students or staff. It was quite demeaning, but It was free to live there, so I was happy. I taught myself to cook as well as several languages and read many many books." Y/N reminisced.
