Miss Peregrine resented the Ymbrybe council. They had made countless mistakes and made some awful decisions, but the final straw was Y/N.

Y/N was assigned to her loop, due to her loop being made on an "unfavorable" day. True, there was the Hollow, and the Bomb, however she has managed perfectly well for years. Yes, she might have had to be a little more strict with her children, their daily chores more than others would have, but it was all they had known since the loop was made and, overall, they were happy.

"Right on time," she had said, almost as if it were an annoyance to have someone else as prompt as her. "Miss Peregrine," she held out her hand. "Delighted to meet you."

Miss Peregrine, however, was inspecting the newcomer, always cautious as to who she lets into her home. To her, this woman didn't give the energy of a caregiver, so that remained to be seen. She assessed the forest green turtleneck, sleeves rolled half way up, tucked into fitted straight black trousers, trying and failing to look for something wrong, something to deny this person entry. Her eyes flicked to the watch to the shoes to the short hair to the eyes. The eyes. They were almost greyed out. Distinctly not indicative of a Hollow, but still not natural.

"Miss Black," Y/N greeted, taking her hand firmly. What kind of an Ymbrybe name was black? Miss Peregrine questioned.

"Please, come in," Miss Peregrine said, stepping aside and allowing the woman in. Watching her carefully. "I received a letter from the council, informing me of your arrival. Though, I must insist, I am perfectly capable of protecting the children and running the loop. I have been for many years now, and I don't see why the others have decided I am not fit for it anymore."

"Miss Peregrine, if I may say," Y/N said, taking the offered seat at the small table in the kitchen, watching as the woman in question began pooring some tea one of her wards had boiled for her. "It is less a testimony on how well you manage the loop and more the unfavourable day we find ourselves in. I am sure it is quite distressing to find yourself in anxious wait for bombs and hollows. I'm here to bring some relief to the anxiety," she explained, watching the headmistress as she poored the tea and sat with her at the table, eyebrows furrowed slightly and a downturn to her mouth that could only spell discontent.

"And so the council sends another Ymbrybe? What use is that when the loop already has one," Miss Peregrine said defencively, watching the other woman carefully.

"Not quite," Y/N smiled, watching even more confusion play upon the woman's face, along with great suspicion. Miss Peregrine sat a little taller. "I'm a seer."

"A seer?"

"I'm blind, I have been since I was born. The doctors thought I couldn't see, but my peculiarity makes it so I can see that which others don't," Y/N explained, all attention given to the woman before her.

"I-" Miss Peregrine stuttered.

"If my eyes are making you uncomfortable, I can put this on..." She trailed off, pulling a white blindfold out of her pocket.

"Maybe for the kids, they might not understand and freak out," Miss Peregrine said idly, a little mesmerized as she watched Y/N put it over her eyes.

"My ability allows me to see people, who they are, what they look like, but mostly who they are within. Another "perk" is I can see the Hollows, that's what the council calls it, but personally, I'd rather not see them," Y/N shuddered thinking about it, but knowing this was the reason she of all people was sent.

"Ahh," Miss Peregrine saw it too, then. Y/N took a good sip from her tea. "I see," she commented, then her eyes widened, and she tried stuttering out an apology from the words she'd chosen.
