01. School Dances Are For Losers

The school gymnasium was in complete chaos. Considering how orderly everyone usually was on a daily basis, Seth almost couldn't believe that all of these were the same people. When the dance started, he half expected that they would be required stand quietly in corners, in their usual uniforms, with bland snacks and sugarless drinks in their hands and boring classical music playing in the background. He expected that there would be countless totalitarian teachers in every corner, keeping a watchful eye on the students to make sure they didn't do anything out of order.
Instead, all the kids were letting loose for once, dressed in colourful clothing that would have given the Disciplinary Mistress a heart attack, and they were shouting, jumping around, dancing to loud music and simply messing around in general. Occasionally, he would spot a group of girls surrounding some poor guy to put ribbons and confetti in his hair and leave bright red kiss shaped lipstick marks on his face and so far, he'd only seen two teachers chaperoning the event.
He was surprised that all of this was being allowed to happen in this prison disguised as a school.
"Hey, are you even listening to me?" A childish voice asked him from his side.
He dragged his gaze away from the chaos and turned to face Nico, who was at the moment giving him a rather miffed look. He was sitting next to him on the bleachers, his Mythomagic cards in his hands, and a few minutes ago, Seth was listening to him ramble about how many attack points the Pegasus had. He lost track of the conversation after a while, and from the looks of it, Nico was now talking about the Minotaur.
"Seth!" Nico whined indignantly as he punched Seth in his arm after he took too long to answer. It didn't hurt, but he pretend it did to humour the kid. "Why are you not listening to me?"
Seth rubbed the spot Nico punched with an exaggerated wince on his face. "Aw, man! That hurt. Why did you hit me so hard?"
Nico remained unapologetic. He huffed as he shuffled his cards. "Because you were being a shithead. You stopped listening to me five minutes ago!"
Seth stopped his pretend display of pain and swiftly put his arm on Nico's shoulders. "Hey, what did we say about you using curse words?" He scolded.
