I had just finished packing my bags for Korea, my flight was set for the next morning and I could hardly wait. It was my first time leaving Germany, leaving my friends and being away from my mom. But something still weighed heavily on my mind. Nikolaus Han. To any curious mind, the answers were always on the internet
So I pulled out my handy laptop and searched up his name, and boy, did many pictures, articles and videos appear of this singular man. He donates, he travels and he makes bank. But one thing stuck out to me, his two kids. Before I could see the names of the two...
"Why are you searching stuff up about him?" I suddenly heard from my bedroom door and I turned to see my mother with her arms crossed. "Oh, Nikolaus Han? I was just curious. My friends and I saw him the other day when he was entering his building"
It seemed like the mention of his name set my mom off because she spoke in such a stern voice, "Never say his name in the house"
"What's wrong with him? Is he a bad guy?"
"I've changed my mind about Korea, don't go" It was so sudden, I had approval for months when I was first notified of the chance. Now she changes her mind? All of a sudden? "But why? I've been dying to meet Jaesung for years!" I didn't want to give up my chance, so I retaliated.
But it seemed as if nothing I said would make her change her mind. I didn't understand it, I wanted to go. "You're being unfair! Jaesung isn't a bad guy, I've been texting him for a while about this!"
"You've been texting him?! Give me your phone Lukas" That set her off, she immediately tried grabbing my phone off my desk before I leapt off my bed and grabbed it before she could. "No! It's just about the trip, he's been telling me stuff about what to expect!"
"Lukas James, give me your phone!" That damn holding out her hand and expecting me to give in my phone. I'm 18 now, I won't give in anymore. "Why? You aren't being fair!"
"Give me the phone!" She shouted and reached for the phone as I slipped out of her reach and ran out to the entry, grabbing my jacket and slippers before running outside.
It may have been pouring, but I didn't care. I have my wallet and phone, I'll just stay at a friend's place until my flight and then buy all my clothes. The only problem is, my friend won't pick up. I was frustrated and had no where else to go, so I sat down on a park bench and just stared at the ground.
"You okay kid?" A familiar voice asked as I felt him sit down beside me. I didn't know who it was and didn't want to face him, so I stayed silent and turned my head away. Yet, he still spoke in a kind voice. "If you want to talk, I'll listen"
"My mom's being a total wacko! I was given a rare opportunity to intern with my favorite actor Lee Jaesung, that she agreed on and suddenly, she changed her mind" I ended up letting it out, something inside me just let me talk it out with this stranger.
"That is tough, parents are usually unfair like that. I know my daughter thinks of me as unfair at times, but I just want to protect her" I stayed silent again and kept looking at the ground with my arms crossed.
"She's one of my greatest treasures. I'm sure your mom is the same way. You're going to a new country for 4 months, and staying with someone she doesn't know. She just wants to know you're safe" His voice was so gentle, and that's when I felt the rain stop falling and something above me, so I finally looked up at him.
"Oh, Nikolaus Han!" I gasped, but he just gave me a smile and handed me the umbrella in his hand.
"Keep the umbrella and go home, I know your mom is worried about you. Have fun with Lee Jaesung on your internship, I've heard he's quite the handful" He started to get up, but then I noticed he didn't have a second umbrella with him.
