Kyara's eyes went wide for a second. Surely the world's greatest detective wouldn't be insane enough to admit his identity to a perfect stranger. And even if he was that insane, why on earth would he do it to Kyara.
"I don't believe you." Kyara's eyes narrowed at the potential jokester.
L humphed, "Yes, I suspected you might say something like that. In the case that you acted as I had assumed you would, which you did, I have Chief Yagami of the NPA willing to confirm my identity as L." L pulled out his small little phone, holding it in a peculiar manner. His thumb and forefinger were all that grasped the tiny phone. The phone rang once, "Mr. Yagami, I would like you to do as I instructed and tell Kyara Mosi that I am indeed L."
Kyara's eyes went wide. She hadn't told this man what her name was. L dangled the phone in front of her face. She took it and held it up to her face, "Hello?"
Chief Yagami on the other end spoke, "Kyara, I am Chief Yagami of the NPA. I'm sure you saw me drive the police van into SakuraTV. My son is Light Yagami. I am a part of the Japanese Task Force organized by L to bring down Kira. I assure you this man is L."
Kyara wasn't entirely convinced. This could have been anybody on the other end. However, Kyara wasn't getting the feeling that either of these men were lying. In fact, it seemed as they were honestly needing her to believe them. Kyara turned to hand L back his phone and jumped in shock.
L had gotten very close to Kyara, as if he was studying her. His black eyes were focused intently on her face, his thumb resting on his lower lip. He "hmmm-ed" and took his phone back.
"Is there a chance, Kyara Mosi, that you believe that I am L now?" L returned to his crouch, removing his face from being so close to Kyara's.
Kyara turned to face L, "I don't know yet. This doesn't seem like a trick, but I can't be sure. What I can't figure out is why you would be telling me."
"Oh, well I guess I should have mentioned it first. The Task Force is in need of a new member, and you could possibly be just what we need. Yes, in fact, I think you are. Although, we're going to have to put you through a series of tests just to be sure. It is important that whoever we pick can be useful in the investigation." L's emotionless voice made Kyara question if he was being serious.
Kyara thought it over in her head. If this man is L, and he is honestly wanting her to help the Kira investigation, that could give her purpose. Kyara had been feeling down lately because it didn't look like going to a university was in her near future. However, if this man was not L, and was somebody tricking her, it could be dangerous. If that was the case, this man could want to do harm to her. Kyara began chewing at her fingernails.
L was still watching her like a hawk looking at a field mouse. He couldn't figure out what she was thinking and that was aggravating to him. "Please, you're going to have to vocalize if you wish to proceed."
As if somebody flipped a switch, Kyara came back to reality. "I will try these tests. I really want to help with the Kira investigation. I will warn you, if you try any funny business, I have a black belt in Jujutsu."
L's thumb went back to his mouth, he quietly said, "Funny business?" It wasn't meant to be a question for Kyara, but rather L understanding what she meant. L pondered this for a minute, held his phone to his ear and called Watari, "Watari, please come pick up Kyara Mosi and I. We are ready to leave."
The black car pulled up, and Watari got out to open the door. Kyara got in and slid all the way over to the other window. L crawled in behind her, still sitting in his signature position. The car ride was silent. Watari let L out at the back of the hotel.
"Miss Mosi, I am going to have to ask you to remain in the vehicle. We are going to enter through the front of the building so that nobody suspects you two of being together. It is very important that we keep Ryuzaki's identity a secret." Watari pulled out onto the road and back into the front parking lot of the hotel.
"Ryuzaki?" Kyara questioned.
"Ah yes, my apologies. It is also important that you address him by Ryuzaki to further protect his identity. I'm sure he will explain that to you further." Watari's voice was very comforting, and reassured Kyara that this man was not intending to hurt her. "I will also be escorting you to your room. You will be located on a different floor as the Task Force Headquarters. Ryuzaki feels that it is necessary to make sure that you are useful before letting you see any information that they have acquired on the Kira case."
Watari parked the car and opened up Kyara's door. The two walked in together and straight to the elevators. Watari hit the button to go to the 6th floor. He walked down the hall and slid a pass card in a door. The room was an average hotel room. One bed, one bathroom, a small closet, and a TV. The room had a good view of Japan, but if her room had been higher, she imagined it would be the best view of Japan.
"Is there anything I can get you before I address Ryuzaki letting him know that you are here?" Watari turned to look at her, with his hand on the doorknob.
"No, thank you." Kyara sat on the bed, now left alone in silence. Kyara sat and thought about what had happened. Through carefully reanalyzing a situation, Kyara was able to teach herself about how people react when in certain moods. Such as, L places his finger on his lip when he is thinking of something he doesn't understand or he cocks his head slightly when he is thinking of an answer.
Kyara was shook out of her thoughts by L opening the door. She hadn't really noticed just how much he slumped. His poor spine.
He was first to speak, "You will being staying here until we decide whether we can use you or not. I cannot give you an exact time because your chance may be terminated early, or we may have to hold you longer than expected."
Kyara sputtered a little, "I had no idea that I couldn't leave. I don't even have clothing with me or a toothbrush."
L had turned slightly, "I will ask Watari to get some things from your flat tomorrow. I'm afraid you can't do it yourself because I can't let you leave here until we are finished with you. Is there anything else we can do to make your stay more comfortable?"
Kyara tinted a bit red, "I don't have anything to sleep in." The room was dark, so L was completely oblivious to her red face,
L had already thought of that. In his hand was one of his long sleeve shirts, he handed it to Kyara, "I apologize that I don't have anything to fit you better. I have been focused on finding somebody new that I hadn't gone over the possibility of them not being prepared to leave."
Kyara took the shirt out of L's hand, her face still red, "Thank you, this is fine." Kyara finally composed herself, washing the red off her face.
"If there is not anything else you need, I am going to leave. We will begin testing you tomorrow. I advise you get some rest, otherwise your mind may not be in optimal working condition tomorrow." L turned and walked out the door, closing it softly behind him.
Kyara quietly chuckled to herself. The baggy-eyed boy with the restless face was telling her that she needed sleep. She found that quite amusing.
Kyara slipped off her shirt and skirt, she folded them neatly on the night stand. She grabbed L's shirt and slid it on. As the fabric passed her face, she smelled the scent of sugar followed by a slightly musky smell. His shirt was like a fresh mowed lawn coated in sugar. Kyara blushed to herself even though she was alone. The shirt was like a dress on her, the sleeves went well pass her hands and the hem was just pass her kneecaps. Made sense because L was a good six inches taller than her and these clothes were big on him.
Kyara climbed in bed, snuggling up with the blanket and the sleeves of the shirt. She spent some time mulling over in her head how this morning she was just wanting to get out of the house, and now she's not even sure when she's going home. It wasn't long until her thoughts lulled her to sleep.
