Kyara was awoken by the light streaming in through the window. She could still smell L's scent on his shirt, which was a pleasant way to wake up. She let out a light yawn, sat up and stretched. When she opened her eyes, she realized she wasn't alone.
L lazily rubbed his hair and scratched his ankle with his foot. His gaze landed on her. Kyara quickly pulled the covers around her, realizing that she was in L's shirt and nothing else.
"Do you mind?" Kyara was slightly enraged that L had let himself in. Just because he was a famous detective do not give him the right to invade her privacy like this.
"No, I don't." L's emotionless voice just made Kyara that much more angry.
"Well, I do! How long have you been watching me sleep?" Kyara couldn't believe how nonchalantly he was just standing there, as if watching somebody sleep was completely normal. Then again, she had no idea what his type of normal was. Detectives have to do some weird stuff to be good at their jobs.
L glanced at the clock on the nightstand, "As of right now, I have been in your room three minutes and approximately forty-two seconds." His hand returned to his hair.
They sat in awkward silence for a moment. There was the quiet hum of life outside, but other than that, absolute silence. Kyara made eye contact with L, and she tried as hard as she could to make him feel bad. She just couldn't get through to him.
"Are you going to tell me why you're here, or just stand there like an emotionless child?" Kyara was trying to calm herself, but she wasn't in a particular good mood today.
He had no reaction to her rude outburst. He carelessly said, "I thought it might be nice of me to bring you some tea. I would also like to give you your first set of tests. You'll have to forgive that they are on paper, I just don't have the time to test you myself, it is important that my main focus should stay on the Kira investigation."
Kyara wrinkled her nose in disgust, "No thank you. Just the thought of tea makes my stomach turn."
A small frown formed on L's face. "I see. I'm afraid that Watari is not here to make you something else. He's currently retrieving some of your belongings. I set the tests on the table, please try to finish them in an orderly manner. The sooner you finish this set, you can move onto the next."
It made Kyara feel good that some of her stuff was being brought to her, but the feeling was quickly sapped when she noticed just how big the stack of papers was. "You expected me to go through all that?"
The frown on L's face remained, "Yes. It is crucial that you are capable of completing all work assigned to you and completing it in a quick pace. This investigation is serious, and we need only serious people." L thought of Matsuda and how contradictory it was of him to tell Kyara that they need serious people when Matsuda was on the team.
Kyara finally calmed herself. There was no use in getting worked up. This is what she wanted to do, and if doing all this work to get there was part of it, than so be it. "Fine."
L left the room without another word. He wasn't sure if she was the right person, but brushed off the thought, he couldn't properly tell if she was worthy until he saw her work and decided off of facts, not theories.
Kyara got up, put her skirt on, but left L's shirt on. The size and smell made it quite comfortable to relax in. She retrieved the stack of papers of the table and returned to her bed.
Kyara had only just began skimming through the papers when there was a knock at the door. She knew it couldn't be L because he wouldn't have bothered knocking. Kyara got up and opened the door.
