2 years later...
Miami's heat was always something that would make even those accustomed to it suffer. But today, Mother Nature decided to let up for just long enough to celebrate Ellie and Ghost's wedding.
Ellie paced the kitchen of her home, her eyes on the small party in her backyard. Flowers lined a makeshift aisle along the side of the pool towards where her Ghost stood in his military best under the blessed shade of the oak tree, his piercing brown eyes never leaving the patio door where she would emerge.
Her fingers played with the pendant around her neck as her nerves got the best of her. Her black and green hair had been curled and laid around her bare shoulders, her knee-length white sundress flowing with every move she made.
Anxiety tore at her chest as she looked at her fiancè waiting for her to begin walking. Gaz stood by with music on his speaker waiting, and his wife Seralia stood in a gorgeous light pink dress with her bouquet where Ellie should be as maid of honour.
"Alrighty!"
Ellie jumped as she saw Soap coming out of the bathroom with a two-year-old Annabelle giggling and holding his hand.
Annabelle was in the cutest little pink dress, holding a basket of fake rose petals that miraculously didn't spill. Her tiny curls of dirty blond hair danced beneath a tiny bow, and she had on the cutest little white sandals.
"Miss flower girl is ready, aren't ya?" Soap said as he picked up the little girl, who giggled and hugged her uncle around the neck.
"Yeah!" Annabelle replied excitedly.
Ellie smiled weakly at the sight of her daughter and best friend together, but the beast gnawing at her heart had her continue pacing.
Soap, knowing Ellie better than anyone, set Annabelle down and walked over to her. "Everything alright, El?"
"Yeah, I just..." Ellie sighed and looked out the patio door, looking at Ghost. He had shaved and cleaned up his hair, and she knew he had to be roasting in that outfit. She felt horrible for making him wait.
"Hey."
She looked up at her best friend, and Soap tucked his hands into his black dress pants, tilting his head as he looked at her. "You know you can't lie to me, aye? This is your big day, Ellie!"
"I know." Ellie's eyes drifted to Annabelle, who began playing with one of her toys on the floor. "I just... I'm scared, Johnny."
"About what?" he asked softly, his eyes full of concern.
Ellie's lip trembled as she tried to keep her composure. "I don't want him to regret this," she finally said. "What if Simon decides that he doesn't want to be tied down?"
"Ellie -"
"What if he realizes that this family life isn't what he wanted, and he decides to up and leave?" Ellie's words splurted from her mouth without filter as she felt her hands begin to shake. "I don't want to be the reason he feels trapped, Johnny."
"Ellie," Soap said firmly, taking her shaking hands in his warm ones. "Look at me, sis." When her brown and green eyes met his, Soap gave her a reassuring smile. "Do you honestly think that Simon would've proposed to you if he didn't love you?"
"I... no," she replied softly.
"And do you think he would've put another baby in your belly if he didn't want the family life with you?"
Ellie's hand went instinctively over the 4 and a half month belly she had beneath her dress. She let out a shaking breath and looked out to Ghost, who was still watching the door patiently. "No," she agreed.
