Team USA walked out in our brand new
Mighty Ducks jerseys. We stepped onto the ice and skated around. We all huddled around on the bench and started quacking. "Go Ducks!" We all yelled out. The crowd starting singing Queen's We Will Rock You, but with quack, instead of rock. Jesse took the face off and pushed down the Iceland player. Another player checked Averman into the boards in front of the bench. I shot up. "Now listen here you little bitch-" Fulton grabbed me and dragged me back down. "Okay, no, that's enough of that." He said."You gonna sit here and be quiet?" He asked, giving me a look. "Fine." I responded quietly. Kenny got the puck and sent it to Guy, who sent it to Connie, who scored. Goldberg blocked another shot. Averman got the puck but lost it. Iceland took it and scored again.
Coach Bombay brought everyone in and Charlie showed us a new play. "Charlie, this isn't the NBA." Averman said. "But it's the perfect teamwork play." He said and we all went back onto the ice. Dean got the puck and passed it to me. I passed it to Banks, who passed it to Dwayne. Dwayne picked it up with his stick and flipped it, sending it trough the air. Banks went to get it but was tripped, but the puck went in anyway.
Guy was flipped over an Iceland player's back and he lost the puck. Luis picked it up and went flying down the ice. He stopped right in front of the goalie, sending ice into his face. Luis paused for a moment before sending it in. We engulfed him in a group hug before I went back to the bench. Russ went onto the ice but was cornered. Coach Bombay called for a timeout and he told them his plan.
"Go Ducks!" We yelled after putting the plan in action. Guy gave the puck to Luis and then he dropped it back to the goalie, who was actually Russ. Averman handed him his stick and then Russ did his knucklepuck, sending it straight into the net. There was no time left on the clock.
We all jumped off the bench and ran towards Russ. We had to go into a shootout.
Jesse was the first player to go for the Ducks. He scored. The first Iceland player also scored. Next was Guy. He scored too, after the goalie dove forwards. The next Iceland player's shot was blocked by Goldberg. Dwayne picked up the puck on his stick, but unfortunately, the goalie saved it. The next Iceland player scored too. Then it was Fulton's turn. He shot the puck and it hit the goalie in the head, sending both him and the puck into the net. The next Iceland player scored. Banks was the last player to go for the Ducks. He rotated his wrist before kicking the puck with his skate and shooting it in. It was time for the last shot. "Coach." I pleaded with coach Bombay.
He nodded and went over to Julie. She got off the bench and took Goldberg's place. She smacked her stick on the goal posts before getting in position.
Gunnar Stahl did a triple deke, going for her glove side. The entire stadium froze. And then Julie dropped the puck. The Ducks screamed.
I immediately jumped off the bench and skated towards her. Julie didn't see it coming but I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tighter than I ever had before. "YEAH JULIE" I Shouted. "I love you too." Julie giggled. The rest of the team skate out on the ice and they all had a group hug.
The Iceland team came onto the ice and we all shook hands. Banks was given the flag but he handed it to Charlie who waved it around. We all skated after him, cheering. We did it. We had won. We had just won the Junior Goodwill Games. We brought coach Bombay, Ms McKay, and Jan into a group hug when they joined us on the ice.
