I was aware of an annoying beeping above me, and harsh, bright lights shining on me. Everything hurt, my legs, my arms, my stomach, my chest, my back. My back hurt the most, every breath made it tighten and an involuntary whimper left my mouth. "Lexi, open those eyes for me." A familiar voice entered my ears as a small smile replaced my pained look. "There she is." Mindy, it was Mindy, she was okay.

My eyes blinked a few times, adjusting to the bright lights. Her eyes were red, puffy and swollen, she'd been crying, alot. I felt two pairs of hands on mine. I turned my neck to the other side, regretting it at the pulling in my back and chest. "Hey Lex. I'm so sorry. We didn't think they'd come after you." Tara whispered as she squeezed my hand.

It felt good that my friends were alive, but I was looking for someone else. "M-mm" I mumbled, it was hard to talk. "Mmm." Still, nothing came out. "Mo-mm.." I stuttered as Chad sighed.

"She was hurt too, but she's okay. Kirby and Sam are with her now." Tears trickled down my cheeks again. "There were two of them, one at the hospital and one at Gale's. Which means there is at least two. When we tracked the signal, it was bouncing off of two, it kept going from your mom's address to the hospital. Mindy, Kirby and Chad went to you and we found your mom." Tara explained to me as I nodded.

I wriggled around, pulling at my stitches, in an attempt to sit up. Chad and Mindy realized what I was trying to do and carefully, wrapped an arm on either side and sat me up against the wall. Mindy sat next to me and played with my hair. "Hurt?" I whispered as I swallowed, my throat was dry.

Mindy laughed and shook her head. "Of course you almost die, yet, you ask us if we're hurt?" Chad questioned as Tara laughed too and passed me a bottle of water, mindreader as always.

Mindy helped me to take a few sips of the cold liquid, helping my sore throat. "How many-" I started before taking another gulp of water. "Stabs?" Mindy winced and closed her eyes as Tara sat back down.

"Six in your stomach, three in your chest, nine in your left leg, four in your left arm, twelve in your right leg, five in your right arm and two in your back. So forty-one stab wounds in total." Chad listed off as I winced. "Oh, and four broken ribs."

"That's why it- hurts like a bitch." Tara laughed at my comment as a nurse came in with some pain medication. "How long, was I out?" I was bored and I hurt, big time.

The door opened and three people walked in, my mom had tears in her eyes at the state of me, her arm in a sling and her hair tied back. Kirby and Sam were behind her. "Six or seven hours." Mindy answered my question as mom squeezed my hand as she sat next to me.

"Sleeping beauty is awake." Kirby joked as she smiled at me and waved. Everyone I wanted was here, except for Ethan. I think my friends sensed that I was looking for him because Chad sighed and groaned.

"Ethan was going to some nerd meeting but said to say he was sorry and would check in later." Mindy told me as I nodded my head, he'd check in on me after I almost died and the last thing he'd said to me was in an argument.

A yawn escaped my mouth as mom smiled tiredly. "Go to sleep sweetheart, I'll be here when you wake up." I shook my head, despite the fogginess I felt from exhaustion. "The quicker you go back to sleep, the quicker we can get out of here." Reluctantly, I closed my eyes and let myself sink into an interrupted, nightmare-ridden sleep.

What must have been a few hours later, I woke up to the room dark and the sounds of people snoring. I opened my tired eyes to find, Chad, Mindy, Sam and Tara sleeping on chairs across the  room, and even Sam lying on the floor. Mindy seemed to be awake, but with closed eyes. "You okay?" I asked as I watched Mindy turning in the chair.

Her eyes snapped open as she grabbed my hand once more. "Yeah." She nodded her head, but I could easily see through her lies. "No. I'm scared. I don't want to get hurt again." She squeezed my hand and rested her head on mine. "I don't want to lose you either." A small smile rested on our faces as we locked eyes.

"Can't get rid of me that easily." Mindy snorted. "I mean seriously, I've been stabbed like a billion times, I had my throat slit, I've had health issues and I've lost multiple people to a masked killer. I'd say I'm invincible by now." She shook her head as a tear rolled down my cheeks. "But, seriously. Neither do I. I'm sick of waking up in a hospital bed." A shiver ran through my body as Mindy stared at me. "What you waiting for?" I asked as I slowly moved to the side of my bed, making room for Mindy to lay besides me.

Hesitantly, she sat on the bed, refusing to lay down until I used my good arm to force her down and rested my head on her shoulder. "I'll keep you safe." Mindy muttered as I closed my eyes, exhaustion beating my will to stay awake.
