Dewey lie awake and restless in his bed, the woman he thought he loved beside him asleep, whilst he failed to do the same. Thoughts clouded his mind, screaming at him to make a decision, which either way would effect his life forever. He didn't know what he was doing until he was shaking a twelve year old Lexi awake, holding a single finger to his lips. "Dad-what?" She mumbled, rubbing her eyes as she tried to pull the covers back over her body.
"C'mon bug, we've got to get up now. Me and you are going on an adventure, just us two, yeah? Pack your case with clothes, your phone and anything else you need." He whispered running his hand through his daughters ginger curls. A groan escaped her lips as she reluctantly rolled out of her bed and onto the floor.
"I am so not a morning person." She grumbled as she folded pajamas, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, underwear, makeup, jewelry and her shoes into one of her small travel cases. Her bags, wash stuff, towels, blankets, photos and teddy in the second travel case. Then she managed to throw her phone, chargers, laptop, ipad, ipod, airpods, books, keys, purse, diary and pictures into her backpack. The two small cabin bags held her camera, art supplies, sketchbooks, pencils, paints, chalks, her portfolio, her baking books, photography books, her horror collections and her headphones.
Then she tackled the task of getting changed in the dark, whilst half asleep. From exhaustion she threw on the first clothes she could get her hands on, way past caring at that point. Her dark blue ripped jean shorts, rolling stones tube top and purple cropped hoodie, crumpled and twisted whilst she pulled on her vans.
Even though she was young Lexi knew what was happening and that her dad was taking her and leaving her mom. Things had been difficult for atleast a few months, Gale and Dewey had tried to hide it, but they had raised a smart kid. She knew when they were lying, unfortunately.
Lexi knew that leaving her mom was unfair to Gale, but her dad needed her, she knew he was low and she needed to get away from the life in new york. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear her dad enter the room. "Ready bug?" He asked as he pulled his own suitcase out the door, bag on his back, keys and phone in hand. "It's a long drive to Woodsboro' so try and sleep."
His daughter stumbled out the door dragging her suitcase in her tracks, holding her blanket and her mom's hoodie and his hoodie. "Why are we driving for two days when we could fly for six hours?" Exhaustion was evident in her voice, nights of tossing and turning whilst her parents fought led to little to no sleep for the teenage girl.
"Because we are bug." He grunted as he loaded both of their cases into the boot of his car before he got into the drivers seat and Lexi in the back with her bag between her feet. "We're starting over, okay?" He squeezed her hand before driving away, leaving their apartment and life behind.
Not even an hour into the journey and the redheaded teenager was fast asleep, snoring softly in the back of the car.
After nine hours in the car they stopped at a cafe for breakfast and coffee to stretch their legs. Simultaneously their phones rang then pinged with multiple missed calls and messages from Gale and Sidney. "Ignore them." Lexi mumbled as she silenced her phone before taking small bites of her raspberry jam on toast.
Ignoring his daughters advice he texted Sidney quickly before digging in to his breakfast. 'Hey Sid, we're both fine, needed out of there. Moving away for a while, don't worry.'
Hours later they were almost halfway there when his phone rang through carplay. "Hey Sid." Dewey answered as he concentrated back on driving.
"Hey Dewey." Gale replied, unimpression obvious in her tone. "Where the fuck have you taken my daughter?" Straight to the point as always.
"Mom we both needed to leave. I was suffocating in New York, we're going back home." Lexi mumbled fiddling with her hair.
"Home? You are not going back to that deathtrap of a town with our teen daughter, are you Dwight?!" Gale demanded fear and anger flowing out of her mouth. "Are you an idiot? What has possessed you to take our daughter to murderville. If she gets so much as one scratch on her I will fucking kill you myself." The line went dead.
"Supportive as ever, mom." Lexi snorted rolling her eyes, before resuming her rock out to ACDC.
Forty six hours in and they were about to arrive in Woodsboro'. Both had their doubts and worries, but they were here now.
Dewey always had a plan, he knew that they were going to leave so he bought a two bedroom apartment.
There new life was starting.
It might end equally as fast as it started.
