Jisung woke with soft sunlight flickering over his face. It was gentle and warm. The morning sun was typically more harsh on his senses, but as he opened his eyes in a small pool of light, it only felt soothing. His body still ached from the ordeal with his father, but that was quickly forgotten when he laid eyes on the man sleeping beside him.
His hand was still joined with Minho's but they were now resting on the Sun Prince's chest, and their arms overlapped a small amount. It was an innocent connection, intimate in a soft way, but it was dangerous. Minho being in his room was dangerous.
That did not stop Jisung from staying where he was, fingers gently gliding over Minho's skin as he admired the other prince. Crossing lines was becoming more common with this man, but it was freeing.
It wasn't long before Minho stirred, rolling over slightly and letting the sun catch onto his sharp features. The golden glimmer came to life across his cheeks, and when his eyes opened, they reflected the specks of gold beautifully. "Jisung," he whispered with a small smile, "how are you feeling?"
A fluttering sensation filled Jisung's stomach. He still wasn't used to the sound of his name coming from Minho, but he really liked hearing it. "I'm alright. Sore, but I'll be fine. I'm a fast healer."
"Well, no matter how fast you heal, I expect you to get the proper rest and care you need," Minho gently reminded, squeezing his hand.
Jisung nodded, and then the worry finally found its way into his bones. "Minho... what are we going to do? Or, should I say, what am I going to do? My father..."
"I know, it's a whole mess," Minho sighed, slowly sitting up. He kept their hands joined, however, as he spoke again. Everything appears to be pulling apart at the seams, and we're caught in the middle of the tearing."
The calculating look in Minho's honey eyes told Jisung he was planning something. What, he couldn't be sure, but something was definitely going on. He still couldn't find the strength to sit up, so he remained down where he was comfortably situated on his pillows. "Where is that mind of yours taking you?"
Minho looked down, a hint of a smile on his face. "I have Seungmin working on something. A few things, actually. And one of those things is getting you a bodyguard."
That prompted Jisung to push himself upright, in turn pulling his hand from Minho's. "What? I don't need-"
"Yes you do," Minho argued softly, pinning him down with his gaze. "You are in just as much danger as I am every day, if not more. And when it comes to your father, well, harming one descended from the Gods is a crime punishable by death depending on the offense, and the Moon King has clearly earned that punishment. So if you have someone with you at all times, he will not dare to expose himself to his crimes against you."
Something tightened around Jisung's chest, and he wasn't sure what. If only he knew how to sort his feelings. "Even so," he said after a moment, "he will not allow me to have a bodyguard. If anything, he'll reassign that guard to Ida, the future empress."
"Ida already has a guard. Two of them, actually." Minho turned so his body was facing Jisung fully, and he took both of his hands into his. "I am not one to sit back when something needs to be done. We can't do anything against your father, there isn't enough evidence to go against a king's word, but we'll find evidence. Seungmin has never failed me when it comes to that."
Unease sparked through Jisung's system, but it was an unease he didn't hate completely. The emotion was simply due to the fact he was pushing at the walls of his prison rather than laying there letting them close in on him.
"You're already so preoccupied with everything, like the wedding and the investigation, so I'd like to help you. If I'm able." Jisung nearly wanted to take the offer back, but he kept his mouth shut, watching Prince Minho like a hawk.
