Aaliyah hopped out of her window, backpack in tow, and fell to the ground. It shouldn't have hurt considering she lived on the first floor and her window was four feet off the ground but it did. She looked around, checking to see if anyone was outside and ran to her moms silver jeep. Aaliyah unlocked the car and hopped in quietly, still looking around to see if anyone had noticed her. She felt around her shorts for the keys and after a few minutes of panicking she found them in her purse.

"I'm such an idiot." she muttered to herself as she started the car and pulled out of her parents driveway.

She had left some sort of explanation for her parents, that way they won't organize a search party or something crazy. Aaliyah didn't want to give her mom a heart attack so she left a letter sitting on the dinning room table, explaining she'd be staying at Hannah's house for a week or so.

Twenty minutes later Aaliyah killed the engine and waited for Hannah to hurry her ass up and get to the gas station they had agreed to meet up at. Just as she pulled out her phone to call Hannah, she saw a shadow run up to the car and knock on the drivers window.

"Let me in!" The brunette knocked on the window again, and again. Aaliyah rolled down her window a bit so Hannah could hear her.

"What the heck took you so long?"

Hannah groaned and hit her head on the door of the car. "Let me in and I'll tell you. The damn bugs are eating me alive!" So Aaliyah opened the door and let her hop in. "I ran here."

"At twelve am?" Aaliyah shook her head disapprovingly. "Someone could've, like, ran you over."

Hannah leaned back in her seat and sighed. "Well I wasn't about to steal my parents car, and also, we all know I'm an idiot." She turned the opposite way to face the window. "Now shut up, I need my beauty sleep."

"But I love you, my rude fuckboy." Aaliyah reached across the seat and pinched Hannah's cheek teasingly. "Plus, if you fall asleep, I'll probably do the same and end up driving off the road or something." She started up the car again and pulled out of the convenient store parking lot and onto the highway.

Hannah rolled back over and sat up upright. "Fine. As long as I can turn on music I'll be good." And so the two girls listened to some very loud band Hannah had put on as they drove to Dylan's house to pick him up too.

When the two of them had pulled into Dylan's driveway, he was already there, sitting on the curb of the road, reading a book. He looked at his wrist watch and scowled at the car. They were two minutes late! He thought as he picked up his bag and closed his book, tossing the bag into the back of the car and sitting directly behind Aaliyah.

"You were late." He stated, picking up his book and getting back into it.

"Well, if it wasn't for this loser-" Both of them looked to Hannah. "-we would've been here on time." Hannah held up her hands in defense. "She ran to the store."

Dylan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Hannah that's a great way to be ran over."

Hannah crossed her arms over her chest and cut her eyes as she looked back at Dylan. "Don't lecture me, you're not my parent."

"Okay, well, maybe if you didn't run in the middle of the night to the store I wouldn't have to lecture you."

"No fighting or I stop the car!" Aaliyah had shouted above the two.

"Okay, mom." The two had said simultaneously.

The drive was quiet for a while, no one said anything. Aaliyah was too busy focusing on the road, Hannah was listening to the radio and texting Cole, and Dylan had his nose stuck in a Sherlock Holms book. Aaliyah's mind was left to wander now that she had some quiet. The stars were bright and out tonight, the clouds not blocking it's view. It's was simply a wonderful night. Minutes passed, the road flying by in blurs, the neighboring cars wizzing past them. How could something so simple as a highway and a starry night be so enchanting?
