I make an oath

Your POV:

When Frank came to my room with those non-Chinese handcuffs, I almost expected him to pull a rabbit out of a hat next. "Could you tell me what's the secret behind these?" he asked with the innocence of a kid in a candy store. "Of course, come here," I told him, smiling like I was about to reveal the world's best-kept secret. I started explaining, smoothly segueing into a chat about Leo. "You know, Leo's a good guy," I mused as if I were discussing the weather and not a guy who could spontaneously combust.

Frank admitted his fear of fire and then shared his little Achilles' heel - a stick that, if destroyed, would end him. I responded with a nod as if he'd just told me he was allergic to peanuts, not that his life depended on a piece of wood. "I could make something to keep it safe," I offered like I was promising to make him a sandwich, not a life-saving device. His eyes lit up. "Really?" he gasped. "Of course," I replied, grinning like a mad scientist.

Percy's POV:

Hazel, Piper, and Annabeth met the spirit who only talked to girls and Jason, Leo, and Frank went to the museum. It was just me and Y/N. She was one of the best friends I'd ever had. She always put everyone ahead of her and was always there for me. But now we were getting a little separated.

"So.... how are you?" I asked. Y/N seemed to think about it. Then she said: "I'm fine".  She smiled. "I've missed you Perce." I nodded. "Is everything okay?" I asked again. "Yeah," She said. "Sooo, what have I missed the last 6 months?" I asked, trying to make small talk. "Not much. There was my birthday. I ate some cupcakes with Nico. He was the only one who remembered." "We'll find him and save him," I assured her. She smiled.  "You need a haircut," She said, a sparkle in her eyes. Suddenly my hair started smoldering. "Hey!" I screamed. I brought water and soaked her. "It's on Jackson," She said, sending fireballs towards me.

We continued like that until Y/N fell from the ship. I ran towards the railing, knowing she couldn't swim but wasn't anywhere. "Y/N!!" I screamed. Then I jumped behind her.

Your POV:

Oh, just my luck, I thought to myself as I was unceremoniously yanked into the depths of the sea. Because who needs a quiet day on deck when you can have an impromptu meeting with the god of the seas? There I was, surrounded by an air bubble for the second theatrical time today, face-to-face with Poseidon. Because, of course, who else would be hanging out at the bottom of the sea waiting to have a heart-to-heart with me?

"My Lord, what do you need?" I asked, trying to muster all the respect as I kneeled "Stand up, Y/N," Poseidon commanded. Oh, right, because we're all about formalities down here under the sea.

"I understand you are the one who took that knife for Percy?" he continued. I nodded, completely bewildered. I mean, it's not every day your crush's dad acknowledges your existent heroic deeds, right? "You are in love with him. Aphrodite told me. So I know I can trust you. I want you to take care of him. Don't let him die, Y/N," he said, as casually as if he were asking me to water his plants while he was away.

I frowned, more than willing to comply but couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't you ask Annabeth?" You know, just a little curious. "She wasn't the one who sacrificed herself for him. And I don't like her," he replied, dismissing the idea like it was last season's fashion.

"I swear on the River Styx that I will not let him die. Nor any of the other 7. If somebody has to do the noble thing, then it'll be me," I declared, because apparently, I'm the demi-god equivalent of a Swiss Army knife, always ready for a bit of noble sacrificing.

Thunder rumbled ominously as I made my oath, because nothing says 'dramatic pledge' quite like thunder. Good, I thought, because being the most unimportant out of the 8 definitely needed some spicing up. "Don't tell anyone about this," he added, because obviously, this was just a normal fatherly chat, not a top-secret mission or anything.

And then, as if the meeting wasn't already over-the-top, the air bubble disappeared, and everything went black.

Percy's POV:

One moment Y/N was standing surrounded by an air bubble, the other she was floating, unconscious. I quickly brought her back to the deck, shook her awake, and for a moment, she looked almost peaceful, like Sleeping Beauty, if Sleeping Beauty had nearly drowned. Suddenly she opened her eyes and gasped, quickly scrambling backwards. She looked around, confused. "Hey, hey. Calm down, you're okay, calm down." I told her, putting a hand on her shoulder. She slumped back.

Suddenly a dagger went into the sea. Then I heard Octavian scream. "Annabeth is in trouble," I said.

Your POV:

"Leo, let me steer," I said to Leo, who was clinging to the helm like it was his firstborn child. "I can't let go, Y/N," he protested, as if the ship would instantly sink if he took his hands off the wheel for two seconds. I gently pried his fingers open, like I was disarming a live bomb. "Go rest," I suggested, "You need it." "Have you seen yourself?" he shot back, because clearly, we were in a competition to see who looked more like a walking zombie. "I'll steer. You go rest," I insisted, because apparently, I was now the captain of this ship.

Then the monster showed up, right on cue. "Leo! Get me the goddam Greek fire!" I screamed, because who needs a megaphone when you have a monster attack to amplify your voice? Two vials of Greek fire flew towards me, courtesy of Hazel. "Give them to me!" Leo shouted. I chucked them at the monster like I was auditioning for the Olympic shot put team. The rest of the fight was a blur of fire, bullets, and a ship that seemed to have a mind of its own.

.Leo was missing, possibly dead. So were Hazel and Frank. Nico was dying, and now Leo had disappeared. The two people I was sure cared about me. Why had I made that oath? Percy was searching for them while Jason flew around putting out fires. Me and Annabeth ran around fixing things. I bit my lip, trying not to cry.

Suddenly Leo appeared. I was about to jump into the water but then remembered that I'd probably drown. When Leo got on board, I ran towards him, enveloping him in a hug. Suddenly I couldn't stand it and began sobbing. "Miss me?" Said, Leo. I looked at him and slapped him. "What was that for?!" He exclaimed, rubbing his cheek. "Never do the stupid, noble thing, Leo! I thought you had more sense than that!" I screamed. "Calm down Y/N. I'm alright" He said, confused why I were so affected. Nico was dying and then when Leo disappeared it was just too much.

Annabeth came and put a hand on my shoulder. I stiffened. "Come on Y/N. Let's sit down while they change and then we'll hear the story. " I was surprised at this sudden kindness, but I followed her.

As we had lunch, Leo told us all about what had happened. "Nico only has 2 more days," said Hazel. I nodded. "We need to hurry." After talking I discovered that Annabeth had to find the Athena Prateos alone. I looked at her worriedly. I decided that I'd talk to her later.

After everyone went to do their "chores", me and Leo went to the control room to fix things there.

"Is everything okay?" Leo asked me. "Of course. Why wouldn't it be?" I said. It came out a little sarcastically, but I didn't mean it. "Well, you totally overreacted today, I know you haven't been sleeping and you've barely been eating. And I think there is something about the prophecy that you aren't telling me." I wasn't about to tell him about my conversation with Poseidon so I said: "I have been sleeping, but it's the quest. It's got me on my nerves. I'm really worried about Nico and I miss camp. And I'm watching Percy and Annabeth being the perfect couple all the time. It's quite depressing." "It's okay, sis. We will save Nico, and everything will be alright." Suddenly I remembered something. To storm or fire the world must fall. "Leo, promise you won't do anything stupid. I mean, stupider than normal. don't do the noble thing. Promise me " I told him, a desperation in my voice. "I promise," He said, startled. "Swear it," I said "I can't swear something like that!" He exclaimed. You nodded. "I hold you to your promise." You said. Then the diner bell rang.
