Death was nothing. It was eternal darkness. It was the end of all life. Despite this misconception, Deyanira knew the truth: Death was everything. It was the fear that consumed you with every close call. It was the people it took from you and the pain that came with their absence. Death is everywhere, and yet it is nowhere. You cannot see it. You cannot touch it. And you can never take back what Death has taken from you. You cannot undo the tears and grief. You cannot tell yourself that Death will not be back. For the only thing Death cannot take is itself. Death is eternal. Or so we think.

Deya walked through the halls of the Salvatore school with Dorian Williams, discussing the lecture from yesterday's class. Deya had pulled him aside and asked for a more in-depth description of one of the points. Dorian, while surprised that she was this interested, had gladly obliged. "Dorian!" They heard Dr. Saltzman shout from his office. Dorian shot Deya a look and raced to the office. Deya knew that she was not supposed to follow, but she had never been one for rules.
"Woah," she said as soon as she entered the room to find Dr. Saltzman and Dorian staring at a bloody bride.
"Deya!" Dorian scolded.
"What? I was curious." She protested as the unnamed bride watched the interaction confusedly.
"Deya, this is Jo." Dr. Saltzman began, realizing that Deya's traveler abilities would come in handy right now. "Jo, this is Deya."
"Hi, Deya..." Jo trailed off with a weak smile. Deya shot her eyes to Dr. Saltzman, a silent question in them. He flicked his gaze from her hands to Jo, prompting Deya to hold out her hand in an invitation for Jo to shake it. She seemed surprised at first, but Jo tentatively reached her hand out and shook Deya's. Flashes overwhelmed her.
A dark pit.
Endless nothingness.
A man with peeled-off skin.
Jo and Dr. Saltzman are standing at a wedding altar.
Deya didn't know what to think; the first three flashes had felt so wrong that she wanted to vomit. But then, the last one broke through like a shining light that was fighting off the darkness with all of its might. "Hello?" Jo asked, and Deya realized that she had been staring into space.
"Oh! Sorry, I totally lost myself for a moment there. Um, I gotta get to the party planning..." She trailed off. Dr. Saltzman nodded and moved his eyes once again to his phone, telling Deya to somehow tell him what she saw.

"So, where does the diamond fountain fit into all of this?" Deya asked Penelope as she begrudgingly helped set up for the party.
"Ha ha," Penelope said sarcastically.
"This whole long game stuff is a load of crap," Deya announced as she bit into a strawberry that she had stolen from the chocolate fountain.
"You have no patience," Penelope complained as she smacked Deya's arm lightly. Deya rolled her eyes and hopped off the table she had been lounging on and began to actually help the party committee.
"You're lucky that I respect women." MG's voice came from behind them. "And that I shun all forms of toxic masculinity, or else you and I would be throwing down right now. Even if you can kick my ass." He muttered that last part under his breath.
"Dude, I am here to help," Penelope said, still working on the party.
"By telling Lizzie and Josie that their mom isn't coming?" He retorted.
"That's low, Peez." Deya agreed as she magically levitated a marshmallow from the snack bar into her mouth.
"Oh, that was just for Lizzie," Penelope rationalized, " Who is taking Rafael as her date instead of you."
