"This isn't love, Dottore. You and I both know it."
Pantalone's statement held no surprise for him, but despite his usual sense of invincibility, its impact carried an unforeseen sting.
The revelation caught even Dottore off guard. Perhaps it was the escalating frustration from this ongoing conversation or a need to preempt any meddling in the complexities of his affairs. Nevertheless, the weight of his confession lingered in the air, irreversible and hanging between them.
"You know nothing." Dottore responded with a bitter hiss that broke through the tension. He pressed his fists into the depths of his pockets, the fabric of his thick coat acting as a barrier against his growing aggravation. His stare bore into the other man. "I suggest that you consider your words wisely before bringing me out here for such needless discussion." He advised as a silent warning.
Pantalone was an expert at masking his thoughts, but given their history, it was evident that uncertainty and judgment lingered. He asked a question in a measured tone. "How far are you truly willing to go for this woman?"
"You have no idea." Dottore spoke vigorously, his tone borderline intimidating and hinting at something far more threatening to come.
Pantalone dismissed any sense of intimidation or belief in Dottore's statement. To him, it appeared to be sheer fantasy—the consequence of a doctor excessively entangled in his experimental pursuits. He followed with another inquiry, unwilling to be drawn further into the challenge. "And would you die for her, even if it meant meeting your end at her own hands?"
