We were sitting in our dorms, I was drawing and Devon was reading.

Jake : What time you leaving?

I said trying to sound like I didn't care.

Devon : Ellie wants me there by 4:30.

I scribbled slightly faster.

Devon : What about you?

Jake : You'll probably be asleep. Oh and don't worry... I'll make sure not to close the window all the way this time.

A silence befell the room once again until it was broken by a sigh from the boy next to me.

Devon : Well... I better go.

Jake : Bye.

He left.

Part of me was hoping that he didn't leave. I don't know what he's doing, what he's gonna do and it's so infuriating.

Devon got back from Ellie's at 7:02 P.M.

I couldn't tell if the hickeys on his neck were from me or Ellie.

Jake : Have fun?

I said not taking my eyes off my diary.

Devon : Lots of fun.

Jake : Cool.

Devon : What about you?

Jake : Same.

Devon : Cool.

Cool.

I don't care. I don't care about him. I don't care about what he does. I just don't care.

After a few exasperated sighs Devon finally speaks up.

Devon : Whatcha writing about?

Jake : How bad you are at kissing. Honestly feel bad for Ellie.

I could almost hear his eyes roll without looking at him.

Jake : Whatcha reading?

Devon : A tutorial on how to kiss someone, thought I'd read your Christmas present before giving it to you.

Jake : Didn't realise we were getting each other gifts. All I got you was a fuck to give.

Our voices were so monotone despite the aggressive subtext.

Devon : Ellie's a better kisser than you, maybe you could get some tips from her.

Jake : And maybe you can get tips from a donkey on how to not act like an ass.

Devon : You don't have an ass.

Jake : Only thing flat about you is your stomach.

Devon : How can you be a fag and a slag? Slaggot?

Jake : How can you be boring and basic? Bitch?

Devon : Least I had a mom to raise me.

He whispered.

Jake : Least I had a dad to toughen me up.

Devon : Least I have people who actually care about me.

I'm bored of this. I didn't respond. Devon seemed content enough with that being the end of the conversation.
