I scurried up the steps quickly in my white flats. "I'm so sorry sir, I was just admiring the castle." I gasped out nearly falling on him as I jumped up the last step of the gigantic staircase. He tried to steady me so I didn't fall down them. I wiped my brow and fixed my dress and finally met his gaze. He was tall, and handsome for a man probably in his 50's. He had golden eyes, and crows feet. But other than that a very smooth face.

"I see you're dressed for the party tonight miss Roseglade. Your mother always knew how to make an entrance, something it seems she's passed on to you." He said with an eye brow raised, I felt my cheeks flush instantly.
"Oh, no sir. I'm sorry my mother dresses me in these. I seen the students wearing uniforms, my mother didn't even mention them to me. I'm kind of excited for a change of clothes." I had to look at my shoes for that, my mother would've slapped me into next week if she heard me even being remotely unladylike like. 'Pants' were for men she would say. He laughed a roaring laugh, I had never heard someone laugh so loudly before.

"Well Merah, I think I'm going to like having you here. Even if your mother is against it, maybe this will be good for you. Besides as far as I can tell you aren't a doll made of porcelain, here you are free to decide things for yourself. Also call me Charles, or Mr.Chance, No sirs here. Now this semester I picked your classes to see how far you've come in histories and Magik's, but next semester I'm having you pick the courses that sound best to you. How does that sound Merah?" I smiled up at him.

"Wonderful sir, er Mr.Chance thank you. I know my histories but no Magik sir. Mother thinks it's a waste." He tisked out loud for that.

"That woman is a menace... Sorry Merah I shouldn't have said that out loud. You will get the best education here I promise, and if you want to learn something they haven't covered with you or you need extra help please don't be afraid to say anything to me." He smiled at me adoringly, then marched me through the doors.

The inside was even more beautiful. Grand staircases lined the walls on each side and looking up there didn't seem to be an end to them. At the back wall between the staircases there seemed to be a greenhouse surrounded by glass windows. Through the archway to the right I seen beautiful fireplaces and lots of couches and chairs, and to the left seemed to be a beautiful ballroom. "Now Merah, the main floor is mostly for socialization. Through the right is a sitting room and library, off to the left is the kitchen and cafeteria. We also hold festivities in there like tonight's start of the year party. We've been open for centuries but royalty haven't been in this school for a few decades. You will all be treated like regular students here tho, we can't play favorites." I had to interrupt him there.
"Honestly sir, er Charles... I don't want to be treated like a royal. I don't have any friends except my servants at home. I just want to be a normal student here learning like everyone else." He smiled at that and patted my back.
"Good to hear, now let's show you where you room is." As we walked up the stairs he explained how most classes were held on the second and third floors. Teachers dorms were on the second and third as well. The fourth and fifth floors were student dorms. He said most had roommates but the royal parents had paid extra for solo rooms. "Most breeds here are mixed up in rooms and I'm sure that's why they paid premium for solo rooms for you few. There are 10 royals starting this year here." That stopped me in my tracks.
"Ten? I thought this school only taught 4 different breeds?" He looked astonished.
"We do Merah, there are 10 royal families. You didn't think you were the only Fae family did you?" I looked at him exasperated, yes I did think we were the only fae royals left because that's what my mother said. But he already doesn't seem to care for her so I wasn't going to say that. "Honestly Mer, You and I are distant relatives through our fae blood lines. I'm your great uncle through your mother's side. Royals go by blood status, I was a child from an affair so I have no blood right. Understand? How do you think royals marry other royals?" That thought never crossed my mind. Nor the fact that the headmaster could be related to me. "Now the royals are on the fifth floor. I just stuck you lot together, apart but together. I believe you have the front east tower Mer, all of your belongings are already up there. Now the dinner and party are at 5, why don't you unpack and get settled and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Alright?" I nodded and turned to where he pointed, quietly making my way down the hallway. I couldn't believe we had walked all those stairs already. I was so lost in what he was saying to me, I hadn't felt a single step. And it felt so odd to be alone now.
