"Bye Ric! Come on Jeremy we can't be late for the first day of school"
"Yeh yeh I get it. It's only 8am and you've already started bossing me around"
"Well that's what good older sisters do Jer, now hurry up - Oh Wait! Jeremy you forgot your blood bag!"
Elena rushed out the doorway carrying a cold bag of B-positive blood in her hands, soon to be Jeremy's lunch. After tucking it away discreetly into Jeremy's backpack, they started walking towards Mystic Falls Highschool.
Alaric sighed and leaned against the doorway like a proud father, a wide grin stretching across his face as he watched the two walk away. But he couldn't help but feel a nervous twitch on the side of his forehead, his hands started going clammy at the thought that this year could be the year that the two kids, who he loved the most in the entire world, could be discovered for what they truly are - vampires.

"Alright Jer DON'T go looking for trouble, we're supposed to be having a fresh start here so please be careful. You know what to do right?"
Elena raised her eyebrows waiting for Jeremy's response but all he could reply with was a confused stare and furrowed eyebrows.
"Ugh Jeremy, I MEAN you know what you're supposed to do when you feel 'hungry' right?"
"Oh Right! Heh sorry I think I'm just kinda nervous for my first day at school that's all."
*Sigh* "Of course you are Jer, but remember I'm always here for you. I'll always be your older sister, even if we aren't really related" Jeremy and Elena chuckle.
"I'll still scold you and bully you and boss you around for eternity okay? So don't be nervous, you're gonna crush it" Elena gently pats Jeremy's shoulder, and his anxiety melts away at the comfort of his older sister.
"Okay I've got to get to History Class but I'll see you later Jeremy"
As they exchanged goodbyes, Elena saw something out of the corner of her eye. A swift movement, like a gust of wind had entered the classroom, but it was such a blur that she ignored it.
She sat down, brought out her books and was ready for a boring History Class, when suddenly she noticed something. No one else was in the classroom. The seats were empty. Only one seat was occupied, to the far left at the very back corner, there was a guy, sitting there. His dark midnight hair moved softly across his cheeks and forehead, as the open window blew a gentle breeze inside the classroom. His ice blue eyes that stared off into the distance with a sad but mysterious look. He sat there with a blank expression and yet, it was like Elena could see into his very soul, and see the pain hidden inside of him. It was only a matter of time before he noticed her staring and looked back at her. Eye contact. Elena panicked and played with her hair before looking away, trying to ignore the fact that his face was absolutely gorgeous.
Next second, his chair screeched against the tile as he stood up from his seat. Elena wondered to herself if he was coming over in her direction. Panic started to set in as she was really hoping he wouldn't confront her for her weird staring. She closed her eyes and got ready for his accusations, only to be surprised with his hand, stretched out to her asking for a handshake.
"Hi, I'm Damon"
"Oh hi..." She reached out her hand and touched his. His hands were rough and boney, but the feeling of their fingertips touching sent a spark through her nerves.
"Sooo you got a name or do I just call you Creepy Staring Girl"
"Oh hehe-ehem, um I'm Elena"
"Well Elena, seems like you are in the wrong classroom" He said with a mischievous grin.
"Wait really?" Elena checked her class schedule again and sure enough, her class had already started, in another room.
"Urgh! of course I go to the wrong classroom on the first day, that's just my luck I guess."
Elena rested her head on the desk in embarrassment, covering her face in her arms and trying to come up with a way to walk into the right classroom without seeming like she came late for school.
Damon chuckled quietly and looked down at the hopeless girl, so prepared with her books and her pens on the desk. He also couldn't ignore the sweet scent coming from the top of her head. He silently took a strand of her honey brown hair and twirled it in his fingers. He started to stoop down to talk to her when all of a sudden, she raised her head from out under her arms. Their eyes met. Their faces now 3 inches from each other. Elena was startled, she cleared her throat and started packing up her bag to avoid the awkwardness of the moment.
"Sooo, Damon. If I'm in the wrong classroom, then what are you doing here? Do you have History with Mr. Hicks too?"
"Oh thats where you're wrong Creepy, I am here because I choose to be here. Apart from history being the most boring and unnecessary subject, I find school kind offffffffff- lame. So I'm spending more valuable time here" He replied with a devious look in his eyes.
"Well that's funny, because to me it seemed a lot like you were just...bored. I mean you were sitting at that desk just staring into space. YOU COULD do that while listening to a 'lame' history lesson you know?"
Elena smiled sarcastically at Damon and chuckled.
"Huh, well you got me there Miss....Elena". Damon's dimples started to show in his cheeks as he laughed. He found himself becoming more curious about this random girl.
*Sigh* "Well I should probably go, I've spent too much time here chatting when I should actually be learning something right now. I guess I'll see you later....Damon"
Elena picked up her bag and left the classroom, trying to hide her smile from the handsome stranger she just met. But she felt different, sort of like she wanted to know more about this mysterious class-skipping guy, and her curiosity was all that occupied her mind.
"See ya Creepy" Damon replied sarcastically. He watched her as she left the classroom, her hair swaying side to side behind her, like threads of the finest silk. As she left, the sweet scent wafted out of the room, and Damon was left longing for that smell again. He grinned to himself and sat back down in his seat. Gazing out the window he only thought of one thing-
"Huh, I think I could fall in love with that girl."
