Elena searched everywhere for him. Gone. Like he had disappeared into thin air. A whole week had gone by and Elena couldn't find Damon at school no matter where she looked. It was odd, not seeing him in his usual spot. She found herself turning her head towards the empty classroom only to find no one there. Damon, who would usually be in his little spot by the back corner table staring out into the distance with a slight breeze flowing through his hair, was just gone now, like a distant memory. But she needed answers. And she wasn't going to stop until she had them.
*ring ring*
"Hey Elena, why are you calling me? Aren't you supposed to be in class right now?"
"Hi Ric, umm yeh I guess I am, but I'm in the bathroom right now so I just wanted to tell you something"
"Ok if this is about a 'girl problem' I can try my best to help? But you will be getting some VERY awkward stuttering and uncomfortable laughing from my end'
Elena chuckled. "Ha ha no it's not that, I just wanted to tell you I've got a.....activity. After school. Yeh um I've got..."
Elena looked desperately around the bathroom, trying to come up with a believable excuse. That's when she spotted a poster taped up on the wall. It was the perfect thing she needed.
"CHEERLEADING! Hehe cheerleading tryouts. Yeh I guess um I've been meaning to make some friends around here and I think this would be the perfect opportunity!"
To Elena, it really was the perfect opportunity. Because Elena wasn't really going to try out for cheerleading. She made plans to spend the afternoon looking for Damon. Thanks to the umbrella he left that night at the Cafe, Elena had figured out where Damon lived. Conveniently Mystic Falls being a small town, everyone knew everyone, including their houses.
"Um yeh sure sounds great Elena! I had no idea you wanted to be a cheerleader but I'm...I'm really happy for you" Alaric's tone suddenly became sweeter, softer.
"I know it's been difficult moving to a new town and all, but I'm really happy you're trying. I just want you to enjoy okay?" Alaric's voice calmed to a hush, signalling to Elena that he really was happy for her. Alaric had always been like a father to Elena, someone that cared for her like a family member would, so she never liked lying to him. A twinge of guilt pained Elena's chest. But she couldn't tell him the truth. It's better Alaric thinks that everything is going well and Elena wasn't struggling to fit in, which in reality, she was.
"Okay thanks Ric! I'll see you later then. I love you"
"Love you too"
*Bell ringing*
Once the final class had ended, Elena couldn't wait another second to get out of there. She packed up her things and went. She followed a route through the woods that stood by the back of her house. The pathway was covered up with fallen leaves and dry soil, the soles of her shoes starting to grow a thick layer of dirt and mud. But she wasn't going to give up. She needed answers. That was when she came to a clearing, and there it was. A lonely mansion, red and white brick leading up to a mahogany door, and on the door hung a black iron door knocker. She held it and felt its rough and cold exterior, and knocked on the door. Once, twice, three times. Then, no answer. It seemed like forever already and no one was answering the door.
"Ugh what am I doing here this is stupid." Elena muttered. Just before she turned around to go, she heard the creak of the door opening. As she looked to see who it was, she didn't know whether to feel happy or surprised. It was Damon.
"Elena? What are you doing here? I knew you were creepy but not THIS creepy" Damon said with a sarcastic tone.
"Oh my gosh you're actually here!" Elena exclaimed.
