Rick gets stood up on a blind date and finds himself chatting to a woman whose date had been a disaster.

As Rick checked his watch for the fourth time, he knew he had been stood up. It was forty-five minutes past the agreed time his blind date was supposed to arrive.

"Last time I let Glenn set me up," he grumbled as he made his way to the bar to close his tab.

He stood alone while he waited for the bartender to appear, but from the looks of the crowd that was gathering nearby, he knew she would be a while.

He sighed and looked down at his watch again, briefly looking around the crowded bar, just in case anyone appeared to be looking for him, but no such luck.

Rick hadn't wanted to go on a blind date, but Glenn and his wife Maggie had insisted he needed to get out more. In reality, they were probably trying to stop him from being a third wheel in their marriage.

Rick tapped his credit card on the bar top and sighed, annoyed at the wait. He was already embarrassed that he had waited so long for a random woman to show, so he definitely didn't want anyone he knew to see him and question why he was out alone.

He noticed from the corner of his eye a woman approaching the bar. She slammed her glass down on the top and sighed in frustration.

"Bad night?" Rick asked curiously.

The woman glanced over at him, "see that piece of shit over there?" she said, pointing to a man slightly older than himself who was slumped back in his chair, practically falling to sleep. The table before him was littered with beer bottles and empty glasses, "not only did he decide to turn up to our date drunk, but he continued to drink one after the other for the last half an hour - yes, all that in half an hour," she repeated when Rick's eyes widened. He did a double take of the amount of alcohol the man must have consumed.

"Least your date turned up," he joked.

A smile finally formed across the woman's lips, "my date is a drunk, and yours doesn't exist; we should have just gone on a date together," she joked back.

Rick shrugged his shoulders, "well, I'm free for the night, and it looks like you are too," he said as he looked back at her drunken date, who had slumped into a pile on the floor. "Let me close out my tab, and we can go somewhere else."

Rick had never acted on impulse when it came to women before, and he had never been so confident, but he was already filled with embarrassment over being stood up, so how much worse could it get?

The woman grinned and diverted her eyes, "I like the sound of that."
