~♡~flashback~♡~
"Where's Mayura?" Chat screamed, a vile detest over his father darkening the concern he felt over Nathalie.
"Why do you care stray?" Hawkmoth replied, his new suit shimmering in the bright hospital-like overhead lights, "If it's the miraculous you want, it shouldn't matter who wields them,"
Chat's throat closed in realisation. He was right. Even more that he already had, Chat Noir needed to pretend the goings on in the Agreste household didn't bother him.
Now would be a great time for the rest of the superheroes to spontaneously decide to rush to their rescue.
Without anymore warning, Hawkmoth barrelled toward Ladybug, likely targeting her for her guardianship status, and brandishing both cane and fan like they were deadly weapons of mass destruction.
A bolt of red spewed of to meet Hawkmoths attack and Ladybug met each of his strangely youthful strikes with a feline agility.
Chat Noir, once again having retreated inside his own head, snapped at himself to get in the game and launched himself between the dueling insects. .
With the two of them against one, this should be a peice of cake.
Except Hawkmoth has two Miraculous.
And adult powers.
And he was physically bigger than them...
But they were a team! They were Ladybug and Chat Noir, badass superheroes who were absolutely unstoppable.
Hawkmoth, however, despite his elderly stature and grey hairs, managed to put up a difficult fight, surprising them with quick counter strikes and lithe movements.
Lithe and strong movements. As Chat Noir found out the hard way when he was roundhouse-kicked over the glass of his mother's coffin and sent skittering across the floor.
And again when Ladybug was poked hard enough in the gut with his cane that she doubled over and Chat Noir had to leap infront of her before Hawkmoth took her miraculous.
"Would be a great time to call up that lucky charm of yours milady..." Chat prompted as they were backed into a corner.
"Not yet, he's too unpredictable."
"Fine..."
"Chat no!"
"Cataclysm!" He shrieked, plowing forward with his hand aimed at Hawkmoths chest, before the all-too-amused villain spun out of the way.
Out of control, Chat Noir stumbled foreward, hearing Hawkmoth echo Ladybugs exclamation just as Chat Noirs black-shrouded fist collided with a pane of thick glass.
The clear material over his mother shattered, the cataclysmic curse spreading down the sides and stretching onto the metal base of the tomb.
Chat Noir watched in muted horror as his mother's final resting place, and his mother herself, were reduced into ash and broken glass before he was shoved roughly to the side.
"No...Emilie-" Hawkmoth choked out, looking just as ravaged and emotional as Chat felt.
He'd just...obliterated his mother. There was no more Emilie Agreste.
No more Emilie Agreste...?
It was then that Chat realised how much of him had been secretly craving for his father to emerge victorious, if only out of foolish hope that his mother could come back. But now, seeing what was once her body now nothing but ashy ruins, the last pillar of hope for his mother crumbled.
