Tikki's wide blue eyes, rimmed with red lids and holding more emotion than seemed possible, reminded him of Ladybug in every way.
The pain in them brought back vivid flashbacks of the one night he wanted to forget.
"I'm alright Adrien," the creature said softly, before adding, "How are you holding up?"
Adrien swallowed, in the weeks before...everything, both Ladybug and Marinette had asked him that same question, with the same soft, concerned look in their eyes.
Maybe this kwami thing would be harder than he thought.
"I'm...getting there," he said after the silence drew in too long, "I figured some company might help,"
Tikki gave a little smile, seeming to feel a little better in the presence of Adrien and-
"Plagg!" She yelped, seeming to just notice him him the room. Immediately, she zoomed across and barrelled into him, causing them both to flip in mid-air- several times - before they finally stilled, remaining locked in an embrace.
Adrien smiled at the little show of affection, revelling in the feeling of genuine happiness that was already filling the room, as small of a difference as it made.
"Adrien?" Nathalie called, "Is everything alright in there?"
Every being in the room seemed to freeze at her words, before Adrien responded awkwardly, "We're all good Nathalie, is it dinner time?"
The following pause was loaded with shock.
"We...?"
"Come in Nathalie," Adrien blurted, already feeling awkward about this encounter.
But it was already too late, the door was creeping open, and most of the Kwamis were still hanging in mid-air.
Once the door had fully opened, Duusoo squealed in excitement and rushed forward to greet Nathalie.
"Oh, Nathalie! How great is this! Now you're not fighting Paris and me and Nooroo are free and Gabriel's gone and-"
"Y-yes Duusoo," Nathalie cut her off, still standing frozen at the entrance to the room.
Her steel blue eyes swept the room, taking in the many tiny creatures that were inhabiting the small room before her eyes landed on Adrien.
She smiled.
"I'm glad you're feeling a bit better Adrien," she praised him, "are you coming down today?" She was so hopeful, that maybe the kwamis would help Adrien back into the boy he was before.
"...um yes? I think I will," Adrien answered, another round of nervousness swirling in his gut at the thought of having his first family dinner with his not-quite family.
"Wonderful! Er- do...your friends need anything...?" She felt helpless, staring at the dozens of eyes staring at her.
Adrien bit his lip, looking over at Plagg, who shrugged; then tikki, who repeated his action; then out to the rest of the kwamis, who were split between yes and no.
"Alright, if you need food, come down, if not, stay in here...please," Adrien commanded hesitantly.
He walked out towards the cosy dining room, followed by about ten adorable little creatures who were already putting g a smile on his face.
Maybe it would all be okay.
