bonus. the day of the nationals dawned upon mayu, infusing her with an unparalleled sense of excitement right from the moment she opened her eyes.
unlike her teammates, who dozed off during the ride to tokyo, she remained wide awake, brimming with excitement for the upcoming event.
her heart swelled with gratitude seeing her brother and his team arriving to support her. she was most excited to see iwaizumi.
as they stepped onto the grand court, they were pitted against their formidable opponents, itachiyama girls' volleyball team. mayu anticipated a challenging match against this powerhouse team.
meanwhile, at the stands, tooru scanned the crowd. "where's mattsun and makki?" he inquired, settling beside iwaizumi among the seijoh supporters.
both had taken the train to tokyo, eager to cheer mayu and her team on. "probably getting snacks. they'll show up soon." iwaizumi answered, his gaze fixating on mayu as she stretched and prepared for the match.
"good luck, mayu!" iwaizumi suddenly shouted, grabbing mayu's attention. her smile widened, responding by blowing a flying kiss towards iwaizumi.
he played along, pretending to catch it and holding it close to his heart. watching this exchange, tooru couldn't help but express his annoyance, "you two are so cringe, it's disgusting." he muttered, crossing his arms.
"better buckle up, trashykawa." iwaizumi retorted with a hiss. "remember, your girlfriend's an oikawa too." tooru fired back, arching an eyebrow at him, who chose to ignore the remark.
"it's starting, you can shut up now." he interjected as both teams took their positions on the court, the match about to begin.
as the match kicked off, aoba johsai took the lead by securing the first point. both teams exhibited their skills, but mayu and her team were determined not to let this first match become their downfall.
"have they started already?" matsukawa and makki finally arrived, sporting an array of snacks.
settling in beside iwaizumi and tooru, matsukawa explained, "the line for hotdogs was a nightmare." he bit into his snack as iwaizumi updated them on the game's progress.
makki, however, couldn't help but notice something different about mayu as she successfully blocked a spike. "is it just me or is there an aura around mayu? like blooming flowers and sunshine." he remarked, trying to pinpoint the change.
"wait, no, it's something else..." he pondered, while iwaizumi and tooru remained fully engrossed in the match.
suddenly, it struck makki, "she's wearing spandex on the court..." he exclaimed, prompting a gasp from matsukawa, who nearly dropped his hotdog. "holy shit, she is!"
iwaizumi shot them both a disapproving glance. "i'd appreciate it if you stopped eyeing my girl." he reprimanded. "your girlfriend never wears shorts! dude, i'm so proud of you." makki patted iwaizumi's back.
seizing the opportunity, matsukawa commented, "you were right, oikawa, she did find a guy who'd make her wear spandex while playing volleyball." handing ¥2,000 to makki.
"i keep my promises." matsukawa smirked, while makki chuckled mischievously, accepting the bet's reward.
