Dead Love

Chapter 1

3 days later

"Oh my god! Z! I can't believe you said that!" Jessica exclaimed. "He deserved it." I muttered. "Well I'm glad you finally stood up to him." Jessica commented smugly. "Yeah.." I said. I just wanted this conversation to be over but Jessica wouldn't shut up about it. I guess she was proud I stood up to him but it didn't feel all that great. I knew Jared hated me now and I winced just thinking about it.

We were on our way to school and I was getting a lecture from Jessica. We had to grab a breakfast sandwich and a newspaper. I don't know why but it was a tradition between the two of us. Over the years the employees at the gas station and McDonald's knew us well. Jessica pulled into the parking lot of the gas station and went in real quick to grab our newspaper and breakfast sandwich. I waited in the car for about 5 minutes and then she came running out. She climbed in the car quickly. "What's wrong?" I asked. "I just looked at the clock in the gas station and were running ten minutes late!" She exclaimed. I looked at her in complete awe. "No way! Drive faster!" I said.

Jessica started reading the newspaper at the red light. I was digging into my breakfast sandwich. I mean of course it is delicious, but for some reason I was super nervous and if I could've been eating cardboard and not none the difference.

"Oh my god." Jessica said. In the process of saying that she dropped her sandwich in her lap and let go of the steering wheel. She grasped the paper with both of her hands. We started to swerve onto the other side of the road. "Jessica!" I yelled. I grabbed the wheel as quick as I could and put it back on our side of the road. "What is your problem?! You could've gotten us killed!" I screamed at her. Jessica looked at me solemnly. "Z, I'm sorry but he's dead." Jessica pulled over to the side of the road and looked me in the eye for the first time. I could tell she was tearing up. "What? Who?" I asked. Now I was scared. Jessica turned the paper slowing to me. The headline was "Local Teenager Dead". There was a picture right under the headline. It was Jared.
