GRACIE had spent the past two weeks or so at home in bed, without any contact to any of her friends or family. the heartbreak had hit her harder than she thought it would've. in reality it wasn't the breakup...it was brandon's confession and heart-wrenching words. he never loved her. she loved him unconditionally, she cared for him so deeply, but he didn't give a flying fuck about her.

not even august had been able to get through to her. gracie was rotting away in bed, crying herself to sleep and barely surviving.

she felt insecure, worthless, she hated herself. how did she not realise brandon's true intentions earlier? why did it take her so long? how did august's eight-year-old sister see the signs before she did? she had wasted so much of her time on that guy. she had cut off contact with her best friend for two whole weeks all for his sake. so much time on some guy who was just using her.

and august hated when gracie felt that way.

so much that she had prepared a little platonic date for the two of them. in august's eyes, it was perfect. starting with a trip to the aquarium, then ice cream from their favour parlour on the beach promenade, and lastly, pizza on the roof of august's apartment building.

she knew gracie would love it.

"hi angel!" august smiled, hugging gracie tightly. she had missed the beautiful girl. it'd been fourteen days or so. they had to stop those two-week-long periods with no contact.

gracie didn't want to let go. ever. but she did. "hi bumblebee," the brunette muttered as they pulled apart. despite the warm feeling in her chest, august chose not to comment on the nickname.

gracie didn't want to look at august, she looked like a mess, she'd spent the last couple weeks in her bed. the shower didn't help much.

"hey angel, did i do something wrong? why won't you look me in the eyes?" august frowned, looking up at gracie.

the brunette frantically shook her head, hating that august thought it was her fault. "no! no, you didn't, sorry, it's just, i've been locked in my room for, what? two weeks? i look like one big, ugly, mess."

"what? no gracie, you're so pretty, you're beautiful, stop that nonsense," august's voice was firm. kinda hot. no. no. "now, let's go!" the redhead said, smiling widely at the gorgeous girl in front of her.

side by side, the girls walked to august's car and the redhead drove them to the first stop of today; the aquarium

gracie loved aquariums.

"really? oh my god!" the abrams girl squealed, her eyes lighting up as she looked between her friend and the building in front of them.

"yes, really, let's go inside!" august beamed, grabbing the girl's hand and dragging her to the entrance.

after a few hours of looking at fish and other sea creatures, august drove them to the beach. this time, they were hand-in-hand as they walked down the promenade, staring out at the beautiful ocean. the sun was starting to set, only making the view even more beautiful.

"andddd, stop!" august said as they reached the ice cream parlour. gracie couldn't contain her excitement as she dragged august to the counter.

after ordering, the girls ate while walking back to the car. everything was perfect. so, so perfect.

"thank you for today, really, august...it was...amazing, perfect, it was just what i needed," gracie smiled as they entered the car again, their ice creams eaten and the tissues thrown away. "seriously, thank you," she repeated.

"of course gracie, but, uh, the day isn't done yet," august smirked, starting the car and beginning the drive back to her apartment.

"thank you, keep the change, have a good night!" august smiled, closing the door as the pizza delivery driver took off again. gracie was waiting for her on the roof, cuddled up in a bunch of blankets. despite it being late june, it was still quite chilly up on the roof in the late evening.

august joined gracie, opening the pizza box and grabbing a slice for gracie and then one for herself.

"gracie?" she chirped after a good five minutes of silence. gracie turned to look at her friend, a soft smile resting on her lips. the day had been like something she'd only seen in dreams. and the company had been even better. "i'm proud of you, y'know?"

the abrams girl's smile widened and she felt tears threatening to spill. "for what?"

"everything...creating a music career for yourself, achieving your dreams, touring with taylor, performing in front of thousands of people...breaking up with brandon," august shrugged. she was seriously proud of her girl.

gracie didn't say anything, but the tight hug and kiss on the cheek was enough for august.

"well i'm proud of you too," gracie commented, smiling at august, "for being who you are, i'm pretty grateful for having an august geller in my life..."

august didn't say anything either. the two friends didn't always need words. they understood each other like no one else.

"i love you, august," gracie said, her eyes fixed on august's.

august too couldn't remove her gaze from the beautiful girl, "i love you too, gracie."

the stress and chaos of the outside world faded out as the girls leaned in. august's heart was racing, but so was gracie's. their lips almost met in a long awaited kiss. august was prepared for sparks to fly, angels to sing, and the stars to shine. but gracie stopped, she pulled away. it should've been perfect, it was almost perfect.

but everything must come to an end, even the perfect things.

because the past month was spent actively avoiding one another. the almost-kiss had ruined everything. every interaction was awkward and uncomfortable. both girls could sense all the unsaid words, but no one dared to speak them. gracie went back to the era's tour, this time without august by her side.

and even amongst all her fans, friends and family, she felt so, so alone without her bumblebee.
