AUGUST noticed gracie running away from it all. she knew the girl tended to do that when things were too much — run away and hopefully catch a break. but august didn't want the girl to do it alone; gracie didn't do good on her own, not when it came to coping with stressful emotions.

so the redhead ran after her best friend.

when she reached the roof, gracie was already curled up in a ball, hiding in the corner. august approached her, carefully sitting down next to her and wrapping a loving arm around her.

"he sucks, huh?" august sighed, resting her head on gracie's. she felt the girl nod slightly, but august could only focus on gracie's heavy breathing and heartbreaking sobs. "hey, angel, it's alright, you're okay, he's gone, they're taking him to the police for trespassing."

sobs kept escaping gracie's lips, the girl gasping for air in between them.

"shh, angel, beautiful gracie, i need you to follow my breathing, can you do that?" august cooed, looking down at her best friend, "can you look up at me, gray?" gracie looked up. the tears in her eyes broke august's heart. fuck brandon, that undeserving bitch-boy.

when gracie's breathing turned just somewhat steady, she cuddled up to august. "i hate him, why can't he just leave me alone? we broke up," she complained, feeling a fresh batch of tears threatening to fall.

"i don't know, angel, but his words are stupid, okay? none of them are true, you are a perfect human being who deserves all the love in this world— this...universe."

gracie moved and sat in august's lap, staring into her beautiful blue eyes. she just sat there for a while, admiring the redhead she was lucky enough to call her best friend.

"thank you, auggie," gracie whispered, smiling gratefully at her.

august's smile was giddy, and also absolutely adorable, "of course."

"no, august, thank you, thank you for everything, for always being here for me, for taking care of me when i need it, for helping me realise everything with brandon...thank you for being...you, august."

tears welled up in august's ocean eyes. her smile was wide, and her cheeks were bright pink.

now it was august's time to just stare at gracie. at every little detail on her face. her slight freckles, her little tooth gap, her enchanting eyes. august had never seen anyone as beautiful as gracie abrams.

their faces moved closer and closer. august was scared, scared that this would end the same way it did last time. gracie felt her heartbeat pick up, she never wanted to make the same mistake again as she did back then. their gaze flickered between each other's eyes and lips.

when their faces were so close that their noses touched, august was horrified of what was to come. it was at this point gracie had pulled away and left. but not this time. no, gracie wanted this just as much as august, if not more.

and their lips met. august was right, sparks flew, angels sang, and the stars shined. it was exactly how she had dreamed it'd be. maybe even better than that. and gracie agreed. she wanted it to last forever. the taste of august's lips was like luxury, at least gracie's idea of it. it was perfect.

when they both were in need of some air, they pulled apart and just stared at each other. august swore she'd never forget the feeling of gracie's lips on hers, the feeling of her cold hand on her rosy cheek.

"augustine geller, d'ya wanna be my girlfriend?" gracie asked, a giddy smile playing on her lips as she looked at august with hope in her eyes.

august grinned at gracie's excited face, "of course i do, gracie," she smiled, capturing gracie's lips in a kiss filled with love.

perhaps the feelings august felt for her best friend weren't as wrong as she once thought.

the end.
