On the other side, Guy heard the horn. A smile appeared on his lips, happy to know Ila was calling him. He turned, smile dropping when he noticed the circling Piranha bird in the sky. He took off, following the sound of the horn. Ila might be in danger and he needed to help her.

Ila continued to blow the horn, not stopping until she saw Guy. She looked left and right but didn't see him anywhere. She gulped nervously as she blew the horn again.

Huy appeared at the tree line and spotted Ila standing alone right below the circling birds. He ran and leapt off a rock, jumping over the Croods who wear huddled together near the rock itself. He landed and slid on the ground, knocking the horn out of Ila's hand to stop the sound. He gabbed two rocks and struck them, creating sparks.

Ila nervously peered behind him, terrified. She looked up and saw the birds closing in on them. Guy finally managed to create full flames and stood up with a torch. He grabbed Ila by her waist and pulled her close to him. He held up the torch as the birds reached them. Ila squeezed her eyes shut and buried her face into Guys bare chest. Guy rested his chin above her head and shut his own eyes as the flames split the on rushing flesh-eating birds like a knife.

Behind them, Grug covered the rest of his family with his body. For a few moments, they all stood instead a tornado of birds. It was almost never-ending. Finally, the birds passed and flew away from the group. Grug slapped at one last straggler that was fluttering past him. Apparently that made him feel better. He turned and saw Guy was holding Ila. Snarling, his over-protective-dad-mode was on.

Guy finally let go of Ila, spreading his arms wide with a smile. "Ta-da."

Ila giggled, smiling back shyly at the boy. She was glad he came to her rescue and she was glad to see him again. Grug grabbed Ila and pushed her into Eep who was standing beside him and roared at the boy. "Auuuuughhauhhhgggh!" Guy yelped in surprise and backed away.

"Grug! Stop!" Ila yelled as she grabbed his arm. "He saved us."

The Croods began circling around Guy, Ila, and Eep. They growled at the newcomer. Guy stood protectively in front of the girls and helped out the flamed torch. "Cavies!"

"Cavies?" Eep asked, confused, still holding Ila in her arms.

"Caveman! Stand back!" He pushed the girls slightly back, away from the Croods.  "They're practically animals. See their boney, sloping foreheads?" He pointed to Grug.

"Yeah." Ila agreed, nodding as Eep gave her a disapproving look.

"The huge primitive teeth?" Guy pointing at a snarling Sandy. Ila agreed again. "The excessive body hair? Oh, that one's got a tail..." He pointed the torch at Gran.

This time Eep agreed too. "yeah...." she trailed off. Ila frowned as she watched The Croods act like savage animals. She never noticed this until now, how she didn't want to be like them.

Guy pulled out his knife. "Close your eyes. I'm going to have to take their lives."

Ila pulled away As Eep slapped the knife away. "No. It won't help." She laughed nervously. "They're our family."

"What?" He looked at Ila who just frowned, rubbing her arm up and down shyly. He could see the disappointment and the shame in her eyes. Thunk started growling behind them as Guy held the torch up at him.

Thunk immediately jerked away and covered his face. "Ah, the sun is in his hands!"

"No. No. It's fire." Eep explained happily, remembering what guy told her and Ila.

"Where did it come from?" Ugga asked as she took a step towards the fire, admiring it.

Ila smiled softly. "He made it." She motioned to Guy. Grug grabbed Guy and squeezed him tight, yelling at him to make some for him. Ila cringed as Guy groaned in pain. She tried to stop Grug from hurting him more. "It doesn't come out of him." Grug ignored her and continued to demand for fire.
