Aether wanted to break free from the ministry and Sodo understood that, he really did but...
He missed him so bad.
Their flirting on stage, the late night conversations, even Aether's off stage flirting.
Although he had always blocked him off, not wanting this to continue any further and possibly destroying the band.
He always asked himself what the Papas might do with ghouls that are flirting off stage and sleeping with each other.
He feared he might be kicked out of the band and the ministry and both meant so much to him but loosing Aether? This felt so much worse.

He curled himself up in a ball on his bed, the yearning after the tall quintessence ghoul got so strong he felt tears stinging in his eyes.
Then there was a knock on his door. Sodo sat up straight and wiped his eyes before asking huskily "Who's there?"
Mountain's quiet voice answered from the other side "It's me. Can I come in?"
Sodo didn't know how Mountain did this, but he kind of had a sixth sense for when people were feeling bad.
"Sure..." Sodo rasped out, too tired and emotionally upset to hide his tears from the earth ghoul.
Mountain entered the room and sat beside Sodo on his bed, placing his large hand on his shoulder and squeezing softly. "I know, I miss him too." He whispered. Sodo sniffled softly into his pillow.

"You don't have to hold back, Sodo. I'm not judging you." The earth ghoul reassured him.
Suddenly all his tears broke free and Sodo started to cry uncontrollably, drenching his pillow in bitter tears.
Mountain started to rub his back in an attempt to calm the upset fire ghoul.
Sodo rolled on his back, tears streaming down his face "Why, Mountain? Why? I just want him back!"
Mountain's eyes were big pools of pity as he took Sodo's hands in his, squeezing them softly "I know. We all do. I know you had a special bond with Aether, what happened?"
"I... I'm not sure." Sodo hiccuped, already tired from crying.
The tall earth ghoul pulled Sodo in a hug, silently allowing him to let all his unsaid fellings out.
"So, you are not sure what happened. Want to talk about it?" Mountain mumbled softly, stroking Sodo's head.
"What would happen if the Papas found out that a ghoul is sleeping with another ghoul?" Sodo whispered to Mountain's shoulder, not able to meet the earth ghoul's eyes.
Mountain chuckled softly "Nothing. Do you think you would be the first one to do that?"
The fire ghoul's eyes turned huge with disbelief "W-what do you mean?"
The earth ghoul watched his reaction with a knowing glint in his green eyes "That's what happened, isn't it? You slept with Aether and are now afraid that you'll be kicked out of the band..."

A deep frown appeared on Sodo's face "No! Well, not exactly. I mean, Aether flirted with me off stage and I always blocked it off, because I was scared of the reaction from Papa. I really want to stay in the ministry and the band. But... I also wanted to flirt with Aether, because I am kinda in love with him." His voice was only a slight whisper by the time he said the last sentence.
"Oh Sodo!" Mountain hugged him even tighter "They already know and they don't mind. We're ghouls, we are not made to be alone, that's why there are so many of us here in the ministry."
Sodo gasped for air, his sad orange eyes filling with tears again as he whispered with broken voice "Do you mean, I..." A sob interrupted his sentence, but Mountain knew what he wanted to say "...You restrained yourself for absolutely no reason at all? I fear you did."
Sodo whimpered broken against his shoulder, hot tears of despair drenching Mountain's black cotton shirt.

[one month later]

Another city, another sold out location. It was the same every time they went on tour and Sodo's social battery was totally drained.
He was unbearable for the rest of the band and they left him alone with his broken heart most of the time.
Sodo threw his duffel bag across the room as he entered the hotel room. He couldn't even enjoy the concerts anymore and the fans noticed it. That was the worst part.
His head throbbed in the rhythm of his heartbeat, so he decided to take a quick shower and call it a day.

The water was boiling hot on his skin but Sodo didn't mind, he just wanted to wash away his stress.
After getting out of the shower he tied a towel around his hips and exited the bathroom.
There was a knock on the door.
Grumbling under his breath about wanting to be left alone, Sodo went to open the door.
"What is it?" He barked at the person on the other side.

"Hi there, Dewdrop" A deep familiar voice said.
Sodo's eyes went wide with surprise as he looked at the person he missed so bad for the last month.
"Aether?" He whispered.
The tall quintessence ghoul in front of him chuckled slightly. Sodo reached out and pressed his hands on every inch of Aether's body he could reach. "What are you doing?" Aether asked with an amused tone in his voice.
Sodo stopped and looked up at him with tears in his orange eyes. "I need to check if this is a dream or if you are really here..."
Aether chuckled again "I'm really here, baby. Mountain called me and told me about a certain someone with a very bad mood lately. Your stage performance was awful tonight."

Sodo narrowed his eyes and hissed.
"Easy there tiger... Can I come in first?" Aether asked, holding up his hands in surrender. The fire ghoul stepped aside to let the other man in.
After closing the door, the room was shrouded in awkward silence.
"Soooooo..." Aether drew the word out, hoping Sodo would take the lead of this conversation. But the fire ghould had crossed his arms and leaned against the door.
Aether stepped close to him again, taking his chin in his hands and lifting his head "What's going on in your head, Dew?"
A frown appeared on Sodo's face for a brief moment, before he threw his arms around Aether, burying his face in the soft skin of his neck. Sobbing he asked "Did y-you leave because o-of me?"
Aether wrapped his arms around the crying fire ghoul "No. None of this happened because of you. Why would you think that?"

Sodo looked up at him, his eyes red from crying "Because I was so afraid to flirt back with you. And I thought you left because you couldn't be around me anymore."
"Oh baby, no! I definitely didn't leave because of that. I just hated the way the ministry caged me in. I needed a break, can you understand that?" Aether's voice was so soft and warm that more tears streamed down Sodo's cheeks as he nodded slowly.
He took all the courage that was left in his heart and leaned towards Aether's cheek, planting a soft kiss on it. Aether's eyes grew wide, curiosity flickering in the purple depths.

"What was that about, Dewdrop?" He whispered, pressing his forehead against Sodo's.
The fire ghoul gulped. His voice was raw as he confessed "I'm so in love with you! But then you left the band and I was so scared that I would never see you again." He closed his eyes, more tears streaming down his face.
All of a sudden he felt warm lips touching his forehead, his nose, his cheeks, his chin and finally... his own lips.
Sodo sighted into the gentle kiss, letting go of all the sorrow and pain he had felt since the quintessence ghoul left the band.
The kiss ended way to soon for his liking as Aether cooed "Look at me, baby"
Sodo opened his teary eyes.

"If you say you love me, I need to believe you, because I feel the same about you." A small flicker of anxiety crossed Aether's face as he whispered in Sodo's pointed ear.
A small sound escaped Sodo's throat as he answered "I mean it, Aeth. I want you, I need you, it hurts so bad to be separated from you. I would love to be your..." Then he hesitated.
"Say it, Dewdrop." Aether purred, his voice soft like honey.
Sodo swallowed hard before whispering "...boyfriend."
Aether took the fire ghoul's face in his hands, his voice only a hoarse whisper "Do you know how long I dreamed about you saying those words?"
Sodo couldn't help but to avert his gaze "I mean, if you still want me after I blocked all you efforts..."
The quintessence ghoul gasped in surprise before tilting Sodo's chin back to him.
He leaned down, his lips mere inches away from Sodo's "Oh baby, I will always want you."
Then he closed the tiny space between their lips, kissing Sodo like he did in his dreams, never daring to hope that it may become reality.
