This is how the upcoming three months went by for them: Zuko would spend every night with Katara in her room where they had sex, then in the morning and evening they would have breakfast and dinner with Azula and Ozai, and on the time that was free from any of the royal Fire Nation family members, Katara would spend meditating. She didn't forget her goal to stop this war, and she asked Zuko every day if he was going to do something, but most of the time he only answered, "You only gave me your body but not the rest. I know you're thinking through ways to escape. Until you do your part, I won't lift a finger."

He was right, of course, she was trying to escape. She missed Aang and Sokka, and more than anything she wanted to bend again. But she also wanted the war to end, and if that meant she'd actually have to be Zuko's, then any other tie that she had to her previous life would have to be cut off, leaving only him. Meditation was the way to reach that. with every passing day less of her thoughts were concerned with Aang and more of her stayed focused on Zuko.

He was nice to her. He didn't let his sister mock her and made sure his father knew how serious he was about her. When Zuko made love to her, he also made her come to life in ways she never thought were possible. He smiled so rarely, but more when he was with her, and she loved that smile. She even loved his scar, because it reminded her that they weren't so different after all – fire had hurt both of them horribly, and, if she could trust Zuko's possessive gazes thrown her way and soft caresses of her body, she believed water had saved them both too.

They were lounging in her bed after sex one morning and Katara was tracing the scars on Zuko's body with her fingers tenderly. When she touched the scar that overtook a third of his face, for the first time he didn't throw her hand off, only closed his eyes. Emboldened by his reaction, she leaned in and kissed the scar, her lips brushing over it in a featherlight touch. Zuko flinched but held her close.

"I think I could heal it if I had the water from the Southern Pole. You're the prince. No one would say no to you," she said.

Zuko opened his eyes. "I don't want the scar gone. It's a reminder of what I've been through."

She nodded. "I understand."

He frowned. "And if you think distracting me to leave for the Southern Pole would make it easier for you to escape, you're wrong."

Katara mirrored his expression, although her frown was confused. "I haven't even thought of escaping. I want to stay with you."

It was true, she wasn't planning an escape. She had meditated so much that there was nothing on her mind but Zuko.

Zuko searched her eyes and found the truth there. He sighed. "I'm sorry," he said. "I'm just tense." He went quiet for a while. "Maybe once all of this is over, we can visit the Southern Pole as tourists."

Katara smiled. "I'd love that."

"What if it was our... honeymoon?" Zuko offered.

She stared at him, incredulous.

"What do you mean?"

Zuko sat up and took her hands in his. "Marry me, Katara."

There wasn't a universe where she didn't say yes.
