A week later, they held a ceremony at the temple by the palace. Only the two of them. And Zuko's father Ozai, per his request. But Katara could even ignore the Fire Lord's. She only saw Zuko. They smiled at each other like they were the only two people in the world and said their vows with honesty and open hearts.

He had gifted her a beautiful sapphire blue silk dress. The style was all Fire Nation, but the color reminded her of home. The tiara that the maids put on her had a moonstone. The only thing that could've improved her wedding outfit was if the manacles on her wrists would be gone, but she knew that was impossible, and the long sleeves of the dress covered them up perfectly. She looked like a princess of the Water Tribe, even if she was about to become the princess of the Fire Nation. She had missed the colors of water; all she wore was red now. This kind gesture of Zuko's did not slip past Katara.

The things she felt for him could not be described with words, and Katara wasn't even trying to name them. sometimes she hated him. Less and less the more time she spent with him.

But that day, she didn't hate him. Not even close. He was her life. And if he wasn't yet, he had become her life that beautiful day.

The idea that she might have to divorce Zuko once the war ended, and she was reunited with Aang and Sokka was only an afterthought.
