"Ashton?"
"Yes," she hiccuped.
"No. This can't be his doing. There has to be an explanation about all about this!" Rebecca couldn't believe her mother thought this was Ashton's doing. He wasn't a murderer. She had faith in him.
"This wasn't him," she tried to assure her mother.
"I know you think that boy is good, but I know what I saw. Ashton came here with a man that looked just like him, but older, and that man shot your father. Afterwards, they both left," her mother said.
"No. This isn't happening. No," Rebecca just couldn't handle it. She ran for the door and to her car with Kale inside. She reversed and headed nowhere. She just could not stay. Her mind told her to stay, but her gut told her to run, run away, to seek answers on her own. She knew deep down that Ashton was not a murderer. But that could wait. Now, all she needed was fresh air.
"Kale, bud, are you ready to run away for a while?" She asked the lil pup.
He barked, and looked out the window of Rebecca's black bug car.
"Then I guess we are up for a little break," she said back. Knowing if she wants to stay at a motel, they won't accept Kale, so she decided to drive to her nearest heaven.
Her aunts house."Rebecca?" Rebecca's aunt, Sara asked.
"Yea it's me auntie," just listening to her voice brought tears to her eyes.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying Beckie?" her aunt asked.
"It's a long story," she said.
"Then I should better sit down."After telling Aunt Sara everything, Rebecca actually let the tears out. Her aunt let her cry.
"There honey, cry if you need to."
"I'm okay now," she assured her aunt.
"What are you going to do about school?" her aunt asked.
"Mom's gonna take care of it. I'm gonna call her and tell her that I'm gonna finish all of it online. But right now, I need to go away for a while and just grief, maybe get my head straight."
"That sounds like a great plan honey, but just go home and talk to mom. She needs you."
"No. I'm gonna call her and tell her my plan. She needs to understand. She will."
Rebecca's aunt just nodded,"fine, then I'll let you make the call. If you're planing on doing that, I'll take care of Kale. You can't take him."
She nodded and watched her aunt leave the living room.
"Okay Kale, here goes nothing," Rebecca took out her phone and dialed her mothers phone.
After the third ring, her mother picked up.
"Hey Rebecca, where are you?"
"Im at my aunts house."
"Oh, okay. When are you coming back home?"
"That was the reason I was calling. Mom, I need to get my head cleared, so I decided to go away for a while. But I am going back home to get a bag or two and my computer so I can do my school work online. I think this is going to be good for me."
"Honey, why would-"
"Because I can't take it! Going back home and to school would be like remembering everything. Dad would...Dad would have agreed with me, okay? Trust me mom."
"Okay. but under one condition, you call me everyday and you take my credit card. Stay safe too. I'll have everything ready when your back."
"I love you mom."
"I love you too."
And with that, her mother hanged up
Kale came back and rubbed his nose on Rebecca's legs.
"Hey their bud, can you handle living with aunt Sara?" She asked the golden Labrador. He barked, and she gave him one last kiss before heading to her car.
