I was able to avoid my brothers relatively well yesterday after we got home. But the day after, I knew they would talk to me about Chaise and I was so right.
I walked into the kitchen in the morning, Nick was already sitting at the counter doing something on his cell phone. I was pouring myself a glass of water when Chris came in and grinned at me.
"Can we please talk about that girl you told us about who happened to play volleyball with us the other day?" Chris asked amusedly and I sat down next to Nick, rolling my eyes.
"Yes, oh my God, that can't be a coincidence, it's fate." Nick said with conviction. I sighed and pretended not to care about this conversation.
"Oh come on Matt, don't pretend you don't care." Nick said, poking me in the side with his elbow. "Yesterday it looked like you were very interested in her." Chris explained. "But she didn't seem disinterested either." Nick interjected.
"Can you please stop?" I asked them, but then gave in. "I think it's great that you're so interested in my dating life, but seriously. Why would a girl like her be interested in someone like me? Besides, she lives in Los Angeles."
"So you've been thinking about her!" Chris yelled and told him to keep his voice down with my gaze, otherwise our mother would hear about it and I'd never have any peace about the subject again. I was annoyed that I had betrayed myself.
"Of course he did, you heard him when he said he'd met a girl in the bookshop." Nick said, disguising his voice to imitate me with his next statement. "I should have asked her for her number. Why am I always too shy to do that? He whined like that. "
I kicked him in the shin. I didn't kick him because he made me angry, I kicked him because he was right and I didn't like it.
"Ooooo, MATT!" he screamed and raised his hand to hit me back. "Wooohoo," Chris made as he stepped between us. "We better calm down before mom gets here." Chris said, which was so unlike him.
I turned away from both of them and sighed, I wanted to leave. "Heyooo, you're not getting away from us that quickly." Chris said and I turned around, bored. "What do you want to hear?"
"What your plan is." Nick said, rubbing his shin. "My plan?" I asked, confused. "Yes, your plan Matt. What are you going to do with her?" I looked at them both questioningly, not understanding what they meant.
"God, Matt. Are you going to ask for a date?" Nick asked me like I was stupid. I almost started laughing. I was supposed to ask Chaise out? Me, who didn't even dare look at her properly in the bookstore because he was afraid she might think he was weird.
Luckily, my cell phone rang on the kitchen counter. We all looked at the screen, curious to see who was calling me. It was a number I didn't recognize.
"Answer it!" Nick ordered me
"What? No."
"If you don't answer, I will." Said Chris.
"Maybe it's Chaise." Nick speculated.
And after the argument, he had me and I reached for my cell phone before Chris could get his hands on it.
"Hello, this is Matthew." I said as soon as I picked up the phone, hoping so much that it was her. "Hey Matt, it's Chaise. You know the one from the bookstore, the one where you guys-"
