Brooks POV

Blake Duncan...Blake Duncan...

For most of the class I can't focus on anything else besides trying to figure out why her name sounds familiar to me. I also can't help but keep glancing over at her. She is definitely the prettiest girl in school.

"Do you always stare this much at people?" she says as she continues to write in her notebook, not looking up. I didn't think she saw me.

"I wasn't staring"

"Yes you were" she turns her head and her eyes meet mine.

"Okay, yes I was" I reply, making her smile. Perfect smile. I want to keep seeing it.

"For the rest of the semester your project partner will be the person you are sitting next to so get together and start thinking about what you will be working on. And remember, projects make up fifty percent of your final grade" Mr. Jones explains to us.

"Your first day just got better" I tell Blake.

"And why is that?"

"Cause you have me as a partner for the rest of the semester. And I'm a pretty great partner" I boast about myself.

"Hmm that seems like a questionable statement"

"Since you are new I will let that slide, but I am telling the truth. I am not just looks you know, I have brains too. Soccer captain and highest gpa in class. This girl can do it all" I point to myself.

"You are really into yourself, you know that?"

"I can be into someone else" I smirk.

"Does everyone at this school or town flirt as much as you do with someone they just met?"

"I am not flirting. I am simply telling the truth" I smile. "I don't know what flirting you are talking about" I play dumb.

"This semester is just going to be so much fun" she says sarcastically. "Here give me your number" Blake hands me her phone.

"Who is the one flirting now?" I raise my brows.

"It's for the project"

"Mhm okay" I take her phone and input my contact information. The bell rings for first break. I lock her phone before giving it back.

"See you later Blake" I smile as I walk past her towards the door.

I head over to the usual spot where me and my friends hangout during break. It is a little corner in the courtyard under one of the trees. Although I speak to a lot of people at school I have had the same friend group since middle school. We have been best friends since fourth grade. I could not imagine going through life without Theo, Noel, Robyn, and Nolan. We have been inseparable since we were nine years old.

"What up losers" I greet my friends before sitting down at the table.

"Not much just talking about the party this weekend" Robyn answers. Noel and Nolan are twins. Since their parents won't be home they are throwing a big birthday party for themselves.

"The babies are growing up" I joke with them. Noel and Nolan are the youngest in the group. Both barely turning seventeen. The rest of us turned seventeen this past summer. We are only a couple months older than the twins but we enjoy messing with them.

"Well these babies got their older siblings to buy them alcohol for the party so you are welcome" Noel replies.

"We invited most of the class so it should be pretty fun" Nolan says excitedly.

"Do you guys mind if I invite someone?" I ask. All my friends turn their attention to me after I ask the question. I look at them with confusion as to why they are all staring at me like that. "What?"

"You want to bring someone?" Noel asks.

"Guys is this actually happening?" Theo asks rhetorically.

"This can't be real right now" Robyn says.

"Thee Brooks "no-relationships player" Vanderbilt-Kane wants to bring someone to a party?" Nolan questions.

"First off I already told you I don't like that name. I am not a player. And second off all I asked is if I can invite someone. No one said anything about me bringing them as a date or something. The no relationships part is the only thing that is right"

"Should've known. What were we thinking guys?" Noel replies.

"Damn, I got a little excited to think that Brooks found someone that makes her want to be in a relationship" Theo says. All of my friends have been in relationships except for me. And they all can't wait till the day comes when I have a girlfriend. I could not tell you why but they are.

"Who is it that you want to invite?"

"She's new. Her name is Blake" I reply.

"You are already pursuing the new girl. Brooks she's been here for like two hours"

"I'm not doing anything but being friendly. And we are physics partners"

"Sure just being friendly" Nolan says sarcastically using his fingers to make finger quotes when he says the word friendly.

"Whatever" I roll my eyes. "Do you guys mind or not?"

"You know we don't mind. Didn't even need to ask" Noel tells me.

"Still wanted to ask" I smile.

******

"Blake" I call out to her as I try to catch up to her in the hall.

"Hey, Blake" I tap her shoulder causing her to turn and stop walking.

"Hey Brooks"

"How has the first couple of days of school been?"

"Good. Still have to work on the making friends part but so far people have been nice"

"Well I can help with the friend parts. Also we are friends if you haven't caught onto that. I have decided"

"Oh so it is your decision"

"Yes" I reply making her laugh and shake her head.

"But anyways I have been meaning to ask you something. It's my best friends' birthday party next Saturday night and I think you should come"

"Um, I don't know. I don't want to crash their party. I also don't know anyone at this school besides two people. And you are one of them"

"You won't be crashing. I am inviting you. And I can introduce you to more people. Come on, it will be fun. I promise" I smile with hope she will say yes.

"Okay, I'll go. Send me the info" she smiles back. "I gotta go now though. My mom is waiting for me. I'll see you tomorrow" she quickly heads out of the building to the front of school.

"Bro is that her" Robyn questions as her arm wraps around my shoulder. Her arm hanging loosely.

"If you are asking if that is Blake, yes it is"

"Damn, she's hot. I see why she got your attention"

"Hey" I nudge Robyn with my elbow.

"What? You can check her out but I can't? And don't say you weren't because I saw you looking at her ass"

"No I wasn't" I was but I am not going to admit I was.

"Sure, Brooky" Robyn laughs and starts to walk backwards to the exit.

"Stop calling me that" I follow her out. Brooky was my nickname when I was little. Even though I am seventeen people still call me that. And by people I mean my best friends and sister. So annoying.
