Frogs Make Good Company

Kinoko Komori's POV

I have had more people talk to me today than the entire year, everyone putting their input on who they think the mysterious author is. Kamikiri is convinced it was Monoma who sent it, Monoma has a hunch Honunuki gave me the letter, and Honunuki remarked that he thinks he knows who sent the letter but isn't going to say anything. Kaibara has been going around trying to convince our classmates Bondo wrote it, and because Sen is so popular, he has converted half the class to this theory.

This entire thing is giving me a headache.

Yesterday night, I wrote down a few things I noticed. They mentioned class, so they are in 1b, a lollipop wrapper was at my door, and they have good vocabulary. I no longer am informing any of the girls about this topic. I had this preconceived notion that it would stay private, but half of me thought it was too good to be true, maybe it was someone's cruel prank. That's why I brought the letter to show the girls, to confirm it wasn't fabricated. We know how that went.

My last class just ended, so I walk to the 1b dormitories, then take a detour to the forest. My shoulders relax, the fresh air clearing my mind of everything. I spot a tall tree, and take a seat in the shade of it, tracing the roots with my finger. I use my quirk and grow mushrooms around me, outlining myself how little kids do with chalk. Due to the girls' reaction yesterday to the letter, I'll just assume none of them sent me the letter.

"Hello." I hear a voice say.

I turn my head and recognize Tsuyu Asui from the other class. She waves at me and I follow suit. We talk to each other when our classes have joint lessons together, although it's not often.

"What are you doing here all alone Komori? Ribbit."

"Oh! I'm just taking a break from my classmates." I admit.

"You look like you're deep in thought," she sits next to me in a way that doesn't squash the mushrooms, "but I won't pry."

"I got an anonymous love letter." I blurt out.

Tsuyu doesn't have a huge reaction but simply gives me a soft smile. "Hm" is all she says. "If the person who wrote it told you it was them, do you think you'd love them back?"

It takes me a minute to process her question."Do you mean, like, did I fall in love with who gave me the letter?"

"Mhm"

"I love the letter and all, but no, there are some people I don't think I'd ever love romantically. Bondo will always stay a friend, Tetsutetsu is too rowdy, and Monoma..." I turn to Tsuyu and we giggle. "-Is Monoma."

We talk until it gets dark when Tsuyu gets a call.

"Who is it?" I ask curiously.

"Ribbit. It's Tokoyami." She motions a "sorry about this" and answers it.

"Hello...Oh, I'm okay, just with Kinoko in the woods." Tokoyami must be saying something because she takes a pause. "Oh, okay." She turns to me.

"Your friend, Kurorio, is in the nurse's office."
