One day, the nurse came in place of Aliandra. “How old are you?”, she asked me. I didn‘t answer. “Write it down then.” she gave me a pad of paper and a pen. I wrote down, 16. “Any health problems?” I looked at her, confused. Why was she asking me this? I wrote down, No. She hesitated at the last question. “Are you a virgin?” I stared at her. That was a highly personal question. I was still a virgin, but that was totally non of her bees-wax. I nodded yes and wrote down, Why?. “My mistress, Lady Aliandra, has heard tell of a human giving birth to a part vampire child. She, herself wants a child and you have been chosen to have that child.”

I had heard the rumor about that too. A shiver ran down my spine. I remembered how the mother, the human, didn’t survive. If I went through with this, I would die. I shoke my head no. No, I wasn’t going to let her do this to me. Where’s Tony? He would stop them. I wrote on the paper, Where’s Tony?. “Tony is…”, her eyes looked sad. “Tony can’t help you, my dear.”, and she left. What happened to Tony? Why couldn’t he help me?

The questions haunted me in my sleep. As I ate the unusually hearty breakfast, I comprehended what she meant. Tony was dead.

I pushed away my breakfast and started to cry. Again I was a nobody. I had no one. Tony wasn’t going to help me. I knew what I had to do. Pick up my stuff and run just like the old days. I looked around for my bag. It was the first time in weeks I had noticed its presence gone. Drake must have left it at Tony’s apartment. It didn’t matter. I had eaten all the berries I had once packed and I had just gotten new clothes this morning. The sound of foot steps heading towards my cell interrupted my thoughts. It was Drake.

“Are you ready to become a mother?” I was surprised to hear him be so out with. Was Aliandra really going to let her husband….? I didn’t finish my thought by the fact that the door became unlocked and two guards was entering. The guards grasped my arms and pulled me out of the cell. We then began to walk down the filthy, rat infested halls. I was able to catch images of what were in the other cells. I heard many screams and people begging. This was a place of hell, I thought to myself.

After what seemed like an hour, we approached some stairs. A square piece of ceiling blocked the top. Drake pushed it out of the way and the once piece of ceiling became a piece of floor. We entered a smoky, but good-smelling kitchen, It smelled of fresh baked pastries and the faint scent of dinner. We exited the kitchen through some big metal doors, like the ones at restaurants. I tried to remember every detail, but so many things were new.

Eventually, after a few more rooms, we advanced towards a fancy bedroom. To the right of the room, I had noticed said, Nursery. The guards released me and Drake pushed me in. I heard the familiar “clink”  of the key and lock. The bedroom look as ancient as I had guessed Drake and Aliandra were. The whole room was decorated with dust. It was much bigger than my old cell. In fact, this room had a its own bathroom. Granted, it was really moldy and icky, but a bathroom is a bathroom, right?

What was Drake waiting for?  Did he what me to start getting scared and confused? Because if he did, it was working. I was freaking out. There was a small window, but someone had installed bars across it. I had also tried multiple times to break open the door. The lock wouldn’t even budge when I tried to jimmy it. My thoughts went back to Tony. Was he really dead.? I broke down again. I was hungry, tired, and the one person who could make it all go away was dead. My tears formed a small puddle beside me. I slumped against the door onto the floor. I wasn’t ever going to get out of here.

As time had ticked away, I got up and laid on the neatly-made bed. I just laid there. Then I got up, grabbed the chair by the vanity, and smashed it against the door. I startled myself. What was I doing? I looked at the fancy door and saw the huge crack down the middle. I grabbed the chair and hit the door again and again until I was able to push it open. As I stepped out, my thoughts raced. They would have heard the racket I made. I had to run before they came to check on me. I ran down the hall where I remembered I had to go through a couple of rooms. I rushed with silent speed.
