BEING A FIRST YEAR IN HOGWARTS meant hoping to get into the right house and finding the right friends. That was easier for some and harder for others.
It was hard for me after being sorted into another house than my brother. He had it easy because he found friends immediately and knew what house he wanted to be in due to a guy he found on the train. I didn't.
"Come on, please talk to me." I plead as we sat in the courtyard together, "Why won't you speak to me for more than a minute?"
"I'm just...very busy, okay?"
"We're first years, we are not busy. And you're my brother, I know that something is going on."
"It's just- you are always hanging out with Draco and Theodore and all of those people and they are just not good."
"Not Good? Who said that? Ron or Hermine?"
"Ron, but that's not really important, is it? He's just told me about how Draco's father is like and I think that Draco might also turn out like that. I mean I've heard him call some girl a..." He mutters and his voice quietens down slightly, "A mudblood."
"He's not like that, it was probably just jokes and all."
"I just really care about you and don't want you to hang out with the wrong people. Him and his friends are mean."
"The wrong people? You mean Slytherins?"
"I- uhm no I don't uh."
"I get it." I nod shortly. How can my own brother be like this to me? And why shouldn't I be able to have the friends I want to?
He nods.
"But I'm still gonna hang out with them. 'Cause in case you've forgotten, the sorting hat put me in Slytherin. And if you think that every Slytherin is bad, maybe I am too, then we probably really shouldn't talk."
I watch his mouth open as I stand up. I give him a moment but as nothing comes out, I walk away.

SECOND YEAR WAS SLIGHTLY EASIER BECAUSE I already knew who I liked talking to and who I didn't. I had my friends, Draco, Blaise, Enzo, Theo and Mattheo and I don't need anyone else. Though I'm closer to Blaise and Draco and not really close to Mattheo and Enzo.
I don't even know why, there's no particular reason.
My relationship with Harry, my twin, proves that sometimes friends are more important than family.
"I'm bored." Theo sighs as he leans back in his chair.
We are all sitting in front of the fireplace, which paints the common room in a cozy warm, though it's normally cold due to all the green.
"Okay how about that, we could play a game." Draco suggests while shrugging, "I heard some fifth years play it so I thought why not."
"What's it called?" Blaise asks.
"Never have I ever."
