Annabelle walked Graham to her office after another bumpy ride in the elevator. She swore that going down was worse than going up and felt sorry that her new partner had to experience the awful maintenance of the building. A door was not as important as the safety of people in the building in her opinion, obviously she and her boss did not see eye to eye on the matter.
"Wow that is a theme ride if I ever experienced one!" Graham told her, clearly out of breath due to not having previous experience with the lift.
"I'm very sorry about that, you see, Mr Geranium doesn't care about us dying." She said sympathetically with a hint of sarcasm at the end.
"Well maybe one day he could be overthrown?" He asked quietly
"By who exactly?"
"By you."

Annabelle burst out laughing but quickly stopped herself when she saw that he was being serious.
"Oh, you weren't kidding..."
Graham shook his head slowly. Annabelle shrugged before continuing to her office, it was only a few more twists and turns before they actually got there anyway. When they finally reached it she opened the door for him and gestured for him to go in first.
"Oh no! Ladies first!" he stopped before walking past her
"Please, with a job like mine I'd hardly describe myself as a 'lady'!" she said before pushing him into the room. She watched as Graham inspected every aspect of her desk, computer, everything.
"I know, it is quite cramped..."
"No no it's fine I swear!"
Annabelle turned on her computer and logged on, as the familiar red, blue, green and yellow of Windows flashed before her, she turned to face Graham again, who was twirling a pen between his fingers.
"Well Graham Walder,"
He looked up at her, dropping said pen in the process of being startled.
"Mmhmm?"
"Welcome to your first case." she held out her hand ready for him to shake it.

When the computer had finished loading, she clicked onto the web browser, she used Firefox because she was educated in the fact that Internet Explorer was way too slow for her. Annabelle's fingers flew across the keyboard as she searched for her email provider. They flew even faster as she typed in her password so the man behind her could not hack into her account. A little loading circle appeared on the screen before her emails were revealed to her.
"Now, how are you on the subject of murder?" she asked him kindly after clicking on her only unread email. And
"I'm not sure," Graham answered
"I've never really witnessed, committed, or even solved a crime involving one!"
Annabelle gestured for him to look at the computer screen,
"Try this one for size, "Middle-aged woman, married, no children, found dead in shower at home, no visible injuries, killer seems to have cut a 'smile' into victim's face, location: Montreal.""
"I say we should check it out." said Graham eagerly.
"Well what are you waiting for then?" Annabelle asked him as she grabbed a pen before heading out of the door.

She speed walked down the corridor so she could get to the lift again. She heard Graham breathing behind her as he tried to keep up with her. When they reached the lift and the doors opened, they walked inside and Annabelle pressed for the ground floor.
"You know Annabelle, when I was young, I used to press every button."
"That's extremely immature!" Annabelle scolded him
"... I tried it once and got stuck for a day waiting for maintenance." She continued.
At this Graham burst out with laughter and was met with a slap on the arm by Annabelle.
"I'm lucky you're my partner, those porcelain hands don't hurt a bit." He teased, and was given a hard punch in the shoulder which left him rubbing it gently.
"These porcelain hands don't much care for tasteless flirting."
"Alright alright, I'm sorry!"

After she had finished giving him the silent treatment and the lift had reached the bottom of the building, Annabelle asked him:
"Can you drive?"
"Yeah, of course, used to be a cop remember? Besides, why do you ask?" He answered her
"I can't drive." She replied "I can't afford it."
"But surely with a job like this you can..." He paused after noticing that Annabelle was glaring at him, "...ohh."
"This way." She was told as Graham led the way to his car.
