Chapter 3: The Cattle Drive

"We thought it'd be fun. We thought it'd be safe,but.. " Darius was telling the story of Toro.

"We didn't realize the... horror waiting for us on the island. Claws,teeth, screaming. So much screaming" Darius continues.

I hear Sammy gasp and I smile to myself. Darius is reading off of my notebook.

"How much screaming?" Ben asks.

Kenji is quick to shush him, "Shh! He's getting to the good part," Kenji says.

"The T.Rex stalked closer. Her Jaws opened wide," Darius spreads his arms and suddenly a flash appear.

We all turn to Brooklynn in confusion.

"For the vlog. Keep telling your little story," Brookylnn keeps her phone aimed at Darius.

Darius sighs but puts back on his hood.

"Oh, here we go," Kenji says as a grin starts to spread on his face.

"The T.Rex sta--" Darius got cut off again.

I groan in annoyance.

"Dang!," Brooklynn shouts.

"Ugh!" Kenji groans.

"Out of space. Wait, I'm sorry, hold on." Brooklynn searches for space on her phone.

Darius takes off his hood and stares at Brooklynn unamused. I glare at Brooklynn.  I didn't put all of that hard work into the details of me almost dying for nothing.

"I just don't wanna delete my selfie on Everest, you know?" Brooklynn says as she shows Sammy a picture on her phone.

Sammy 'oooo's at it and I left out a soft sigh.

"Maybe I should start over," Darius sighs as his eyes find the top of my passage.

"No!" Ben yells before Darius can finish his sentence, "In fact, you could just stop."

I frown at that. I didn't think my story was that bad.

"Dude, chill. He's not even telling the story right now. And how is your grip this strong?!" Kenji shouts and I realize Ben has been clinging to Kenji this entire time.

"So, the T. Rex stalked--" Darius starts again.

"Should we call Yasmina over?" Sammy asks, "I bet she'd love this story."

Darius flops onto his bench and hands me back my Notebook.

I frown and read it over. We hardly started the prologue and Ben was tired of it, Brooklynn was more worried about her phone, and Sammy really only cared that Yasmina wasn't sitting with us.

"Maybe she wants to be by herself," Brooklynn says as we all look back at her.

Sammy turned around and stared at us, "I don't understand," She said.

"You know how sometimes people just wanna be left alone?" Kenji says, directing it more to Ben than Sammy.

Sammy stares at us and starts to laugh, "Kenji, you're hilarious. I think she's just shy and doesn't know how to make camp friends," Sammy said.

I kind of connected with her earlier. Even after we said we wouldn't tell anyone, I was dying to show someone my story. When I saw Yasmina with a book in her hand I showed her my story. We connected over that but she didn't say anything else to me since.

Suddenly thunder crashes. It starts pouring and I place my notebook under my shirt.

"Maybe we should go inside," Sammy says.
