I take a break from staring at my computer screen and stand up to stretch my legs. As I pace around the room, my eyes land on the two certificates centered on the wall, which proudly read 'Certificate of Commendation,' surrounded by various awards and memories from years past.It has been three years since Adrian and I worked on that case, and today marks our 3-year anniversary. Since then, we have consistently collaborated on more cases, and it's been an incredible journey. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in crime.
When he proposed to me last year, I couldn't say no. Life has been better, and everything seems to be falling into place. Adrian and I now share a beautiful home, and we're working on renovations together, we plan on making our home larger for some changes which will be happening pretty soon. Additionally, he's been assisting his dad in running the family business, as Charles plans to retire soon after many years of hard work.
Branko has joined the FBI, becoming the newest addition to the team and working closely with Miller. Janet and Branko, secretly dating for over six months, are planning a trip together and today marks their last day in the department before their month-long getaway.
I glance around our shared office on the 16th floor, marveling at its size compared to my previous cramped space. My desk is a large glass table, and across from it, Adrian sits at another glass table. The furniture is scattered throughout, creating a cozy yet welcoming atmosphere.
A knock on the door interrupts my reminiscent thoughts, and I open it to find Adrian leaning against the door frame. Immediately, I feel a blush creeping up.
"If it isn't Mrs. King," he teases, and my heart flutters at the mention of my new name, which, though I've had for a while, still feels surreal.
"And if it isn't Mr. King." He approaches me and lifts me up in the biggest hug.
"Branko and Janet are leaving soon; we should probably go see them."
I nod, and we head to the lounge room where everyone is gathered. I see Miller and some other colleagues, and as I spot Janet, she rushes over to me.
"Eleanor!" Jane exclaims as she rushes towards me, enveloping me in a warm hug.
"Well, don't you look absolutely lovely," I say, admiring her sundress that radiates with vibrant colors under the sunlight.
"Thank you!" she responds, twirling in her dress, giving me a front-row seat to a spontaneous fashion show.
I chuckle at her infectious enthusiasm. "Where are you off to again?" I ask, genuinely curious.
"I'm not sure where; Branko didn't tell me. He says it's a surprise." She gives me a playful yet curious look, and we exchange amused smiles. "Hmm, sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun."
As we continue chatting and bantering about the unknown adventure awaiting her, Branko suddenly appears next to her, signaling their impending departure. He wraps his arm around her waist, effortlessly carrying two handbags of luggage.
"Well, I guess we're off," she announces to everyone, her eyes twinkling with excitement, before giving me a final, tight hug. In a matter of moments, they vanish into the awaiting adventure.
I sigh, watching them disappear into the distance, and Adrian wraps his arms around me, sensing my slight melancholy.
"Well, I guess they're off to have some unforgettable moments," Adrian remarks, his gaze following the path where Jane and Branko disappeared.
"Tell me about it," I scoff, feeling a mix of happiness for Jane and a twinge of envy for their spontaneous escapade.
Miller, dismisses everyone with a cheerful smile, creating an atmosphere of relaxed camaraderie. I notice the gentle rustling of leaves in the nearby trees and the distant laughter of others, enhancing the overall ambiance.
Adrian, with a mischievous glint in his eyes, breaks the contemplative silence. "Miller dismissed everyone, and I had a date planned for tonight. Are you ready?" he asks with a charming smile, pulling me back to the present.
"What? Now?" I turn to the look at him, while I'm caught off guard a slight mischievous smile plays across my face.
"They're not the only ones having their own little getaway." He smirks pulling me closer.
