Chapter 5

4 days later Friday

I was pulling in the school parking lot in my normal spot. I jumped out my car sped walked to my locker I had woke up late this morning. I got my books out my locker and went down to the office to get a tardy slip from Ms.White. Once I got it I walked to class fast I hated being late since black people are always late to everything.

I stepped into class "your tardy Jasmine" Mr.Miller said eyeing me. I raised my tardy slip for him to see it and sat on his desk as I was walking to his desk Chris slapped my booty hard. I saw that the teacher wasn't looking and punched him in the chest everybody started laughing but that really hurted.

I took my seat in the third row and got out my folder and homework I turned in my homework and Mr.Miller handed me a thick packet like everyone else had and he continued to go over the work. I was listening and filling out the packet as he was going over it until my phone vibrated.

I saw that Mr.Miller wasn't looking as always and took it out my pocket and read the message from Monae.

Monae (8:25)- meet me in the girls bathroom asap!!

Me (8:27)- which one??

I slid my phone back in my pocket until she texted me back I was working on a problem when my phone vibrated I took it out and read the message.

Monae (8:30)- at the end of the hallway by Mr.Evans room

Me (8:31)- okayy

I put my phone back in my pocket "Mr.Miller" I said with my hand raised he turned around giving me his attention "can I go to the bathroom" I asked tapping my leg so he would think it's a emergency "make it fast" I zoomed out the classroom and walked to the bathroom to meet Monae. I looked in the bathroom and called her "Monae" she jumped from around the corner scaring me "you bitch" I said breathing hard with a hand over my chest while she died laughing "you scared the hell out of me" I said pushing her shoulder.

We both jumped on top of the sink sitting down "why did you want to meet me in here" I asked looking over to her. "No reason I was just tired of being in class" she said taking out her phone I gave her a stale face and she looked up at me smiling "what" she said "I'm finna curse you the fuck out" I said laughing pulling out my phone. I looked up from my phone "I was invited to the water park you wanna come with me" I asked and she scrunched up her face "and who asked you" "Michael" I simply said "who is that" she said confused "the other day when we went to the together mall and I ate with him, well yesterday at the basketball game he was there and asked me to go to the water park and I could invite some friends". "You went to the basketball game without me" she said dodging the question. "You was busy with Jay and I know you guys are going through a lot so I just went alone" I said.

"Whatever, but yes I want to meet yo new boo" she said sliding off the sink "girl he is not my new boo we are simply friends" I said reassuring her. "Mhm" she said opening the bathroom door. We walked out and the bell was ringing and I ran to class to get my stuff. I walked in and grabbed my stuff but was stopped by Chris "if you ever hit me like that again it's yo ass" he said bumping into me I gave him a killer look he must don't know who my daddy is. I knew that Chris selled dope and all that but he was a bitch to scared to do anything I just let him think he had balls for the time being and walked out of class.

I walked in 2nd period late "you love being late" Katy said I mocked her "you love being late" I said in her voice rolling my eyes and taking my usual seat. I was in Spanish and I hate Spanish we have like 3 test a week sometimes, but I can't change it. We was learning about family members. I was getting sleepy so I put head down and took a nap until the bell rung.

It was time for lunch and people was running like they never ate before and I was walking towards my locker waiting for Monae and puttimg my books in there. I turned around and saw Monae and Jay "you ready" she asked I nodded and closed my locker. I got my tray and sat down and started listening to everybody gossiping at the table. I just ate chicken patty cause the school food be nasty they don't even have the food all the way done sometimes. I dumped my tray and sat back down for about 10 minutes. I had to use the bathroom so I got up to pee I pushed the door open and luckily I was the only one in there I went to the Stoll to do my business and came out to wash my hands.

Then came in Ashley the girl my ex Josh cheated on me with and got her pregnant I tried to get out there fast as I could but she called my name I rolled my eyes and cringed a little turning around slowly giving her my attention "what do you want" I asked "first of all why do I sense a attitude" "because there is one" she rolled her eyes "anyways I didn't wanna argue with you I wanted to say can you be mature about the situation I know it's not easy to deal with it but we can try I'm not saying to be friends but not to be messy because I'm not a mean person.

I stepped closer to her "how can I try being nice to someone carrying the man I use to love baby, like how would you take that because seeing that hurts my feelings but I'm learning to deal with it" I started walking half way out the bathroom when she started talking again "you said use to" I shook my head "you don't get it" and walked out going to sit down.

I sat down at the table with my head down trying not to let the tears fall because I was suppose to have his first babies we were so good then BOOM he can't keep his dick in his pants. But hopefully this will strengthen him and he become a better person I was proud that I didn't let not one tear fall, seeing her being pregnant with his child was hard for me this was challenge I had to do all alone and I was getting prepared for it. The bell rung and it was time to go.

After school I drove to the park just to sit down and think, I just needed to clear my mind. I was watching the little kids run around the playground laughing and it just made me smile.

One day I wanted kids, but that's after college. Which would be in like 5 years so I'll just wait till then. I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard a loud bang. I snapped my head up to see a little kid being shot multiple times falling of the slide.

I was frozen I couldn't move at all I seen was a grown lady run over to him so I guess that was his mother I was crying and I didn't know neither one of them. I called the ambulance and walked over to the kid and his mother.

"Um excuse me" I said and the lady turned around with tears flowing down her face "why him, why my son" she screamed holding him to her chest "I wanted you to know that I called the police" she shook her head crying and rocking him back and forth I turned around once I heard the ambulance get closer. They ran over and crouched down to his little body putting him on the stretcher and they started asking his mom questions. They came over to me "are you aware of what happened" the police officer said with a notepad and pen in his hand.

I shook my head "no sir I heard loud gun shots and called as quickly as I could and every once else ran" I said "and why didn't you run" he asked looking me in the eyes "because I was froze like I couldn't move and when I got the courage I called you guys as soon as possible" he looked at me to see if I was lying or not and held out his hand "thanks for calling us have a nice day" he said and walked off.

I stood there for a moment then walked off to my car I drove home feeling sad for that little boy mama. I pulled into the parking lot and ran into the house I closed the door behind me and ran upstairs to my room.

I laid out on the bed thinking of the day that I had today and it was a crazy one at that. I rolled over the bed to grab my ringing phone to see Monae calling. I let it go to voicemail because I didn't feel like talking. I got up to go eat dinner and took my time because I was tired as hell.
