Kamaji and Lin

Y/n pov.

Chihiro and I made sure no one saw us, and crawled towards a set of stairs. When we looked down, a gust of wind blew past us. Below the stairs, the view was both beautiful and scary. It was so high up the ground that anyone with a fear of heights may faint. A train went under a bridge, getting out of our sight. For some reason, the train reminded me of my family.

I started making my way down. "Wait Y/n!" Chihiro called out. I turned to look at her. I then held out my hand.

"Follow me, Chihiro. There's nothing to be scared of when your sister is here!" I said, smiling.

Chihiro eventually took it and started walking with me. However, she sat on the steps and swung her legs to the steps below her. I laughed at her antics, but suddenly, she tripped, pulling me down with her. Luckily, none of us fell off the long flight of stairs, since Chihiro was too scared and ran fast, resulting in her slamming into a wall. I laughed at her frightened state and opened the door to the boiler room.

Inside, we saw a huge stove with an old man with four arms working. He was grinding what seems like bags of tea. 'He must be Kamaji that Haku was speaking of.' On the floor, there were little black creatures that were holding coal above them, carrying them to the stove. Kamaji tapped the table with a hammer, and the creatures immediately ran back into their caves.

Chihiro and I walked into the room cautiously. "Um..." Chihiro said, but Kamaji was ignoring her. "Excuse me," she tried again, but he just continued grinding. We both walked towards him. "Are you Kamaji?" Chihiro asked.

Kamaji finally turned his head towards us. He gripped the sides of the chair with his toes and leaned towards us. Chihiro seemed hesitant to answer, so I quickly opened my mouth. "Haku sent us here. Please let us work here."

Many bath tokens fell in front of him before he could answer us. "Darn, all at once..." Kamaji muttered. Chihiro and I looked at each other in confusion. "Get to work, you little runts," he told the black creatures. He turned back to us again.

"I'm Kamaji," he introduced. "Slave to the boilers and heat to the baths. Step on it, boys."

"Please let us work here," we begged.

"I've got all the help I need. This place is full of soot. Plenty of replacements. Besides, I can't let Lady Y/n do hard labour." There it is again. Lady Y/n.

Little black creatures started crawling out of their holes, each carrying a piece of coal. We dodged out of the way, letting them pass. One embed to hit Chihiro's foot, and she apologised, lifting it up. But as she did, many more seemed to gather around her foot, leaving her no space to put it on the ground. I laughed and moved to the side, holding my hand out to Chihiro. She held it and we leaped towards the corner, where no creature could bump into us. Unfortunately, Chihiro was being very uncomfortable as she pushed me onto the platform, resulting in me landing on my butt.

Kamaji's hand reached towards Chihiro, and he waved his hands, as if saying "outta the way". Chihiro fell on the platform, too, and I silently smirked as Chihiro looked frightened. That was revenge for pushing me aside. He opened the cupboard behind Chihiro, and took out some grass. He then stretched out his hand once more, this time reaching to a higher shelf.

One black creature was carrying rather piece of coal. It struggled to carry it, resulting in it being squashed, but everyone ignored it. I immediately got up and picked the coal up, easily carrying it to the fire stove. The black creature danced around my feet, as if thanking me. Another black creature was squashed, and this time, Chihiro picked it up. She struggled to pick the coal up, amazed at how fast I could pick it up.
