Hiccup sighed as he fixed up a dull sword to sharpen it. Life has been... strange lately. For him at least. Just a few months back, a new dragon has been in the raid and destroying the catapults on each raid. Deadly Nadders, Gronckles, Monstrous Nightmares, Terrible Terrors and Hideous Zipplebacks were a common species he and his tribe have seen but the new one was a shocker to everyone. They called it a Night Fury after another raid last month.
He always notes that it only destroys the catapults, never shows itself or steals food but the one thing he saw which was a shocker was that it never misses and the fireball it always fires was a bright shade of blue with cyan and white upon impact and explosions were always a bright blue color.
"...iccup!" Hiccup yelped and accidentally cut his left palm on the blade of the newly sharpened sword.
"Gah!" He held his injured hand while dropping the sword in the process as it hit the ground with a loud clang.
"Thor's sake, lad, be careful." Gobber said in worry as he picked up the sword and put it somewhere.
"S-Sorry, Gobber. Got lost in my thoughts." Hiccup apologized as Gobber gave him a bucket of water as he washed his would slowly and carefully while wincing in pain.
"Ah, what is the matter then, Hiccup? Thinking of a certain blonde lass, eh?" Gobber teased him and it made Hiccup blushed heavily.
"N-No! I'm not thinking of Astrid that way. I mean, sure she's brave, strong and courageous but... she's not the one for me." Hiccup said as Gobber gave him clean cloth to wrap his injured hand in.
"Hiccup, you've been giving Astrid the eyes since you were a wee lad. You were practically in love with her." Gobber said as he sharpened the sword that Hiccup didn't finish.
"Was. I used to have a crush on her until she made it clear when I was thirteen that she doesn't want anything to do with me." Hiccup said solemnly after wrapping his hand with the cloth.
"Ah, you'll find the one soon, Hiccup. Who knows, she's still probably out there." Gobber said in a reassuring tone to which Hiccup nodded but he wasn't sure if he's right or not.
"Now why don't you take a break? I'll finish up here, lad." Gobber said as he shooed him playfully as Hiccup shook his head but complied. He needed a walk to clear his head.
He waved to Gobber before heading out to the forge as he made his trek back to the house and maybe he should take a small walk through the forest to clear his head. The reason why he's been distracted is because of the strange dreams he's been having as if he's seeing them through the eyes of other people.
It was overwhelming to say the least that he always ended up waking up in a cold sweat but one recurring image in the dream was that of a white titan with silver, red and green accent and glowing blue eyes with a pair of swords. The last one was last night and it was about the same being but he was facing what looked like lava from below as well as another one but the other one was with red eyes.
He was so deep in his thoughts that he didn't notice the foot sticking out on the side until he tripped and landed on the ground and hit his nose on the pavement.
"Whoops, sorry about that, Useless." Snotlout laughed smugly as Hiccup winced and held his nose.
"Aww, does the wittle Hiccup have a boo boo that mommy needs to kiss?" Tuffnut mocked him and Hiccup glared at him and Snotlout weakly.
"Oh wait, he doesn't have a mom." Ruffnut laughed which made Tuffnut and Snotlout laugh loudly with her.
That made Hiccup to clench his fists tightly as tears sting his eyes.
"Uh, guys, I'm not sure we should mention that. You know how the chief gets it." Fishlegs said nervously.
"Oh relax, Fishlegs. Not like he cares for this wimp or what we think. Plus have you seen him? He's so weak." Snotlout said as he continued to taunt Hiccup.
"Shut up..." Hiccup muttered weakly.
That caught the other teens' attention and they turned to Hiccup who got up shakily up on his feet as he wiped the blood dripping from his injured nose.
"What was that, Useless?" Snotlout sneered as he stood in front of him.
"I said. Shut. Up." Hiccup gritted his teeth and glared at him weakly but his eyes seemed to have an eerie glow to it.
"You don't tell me what to do, weakling." Snotlout poked him on the chest and shoved him but Hiccup stood his ground.
"I've had enough of you, Snotlout." Hiccup said angrily.
"Enough of what?" Tuffnut questioned in confusion.
"Enough of you bullying me just for your amusement. Is seeing me miserable just a sick amusement to you? Tormenting me, bullying me, calling me names and many more?" Hiccup glared at him as angry tears started to fall from his emerald eyes.
"Am I just a weakling to you just because I was named Hiccup? A runt?" He asked him but Snotlout didn't have a retort as the teens looked at him in shocked silence.
Hiccup was breathing heavily and shakily before he sniffed silently and turned away from them and walked in the direction in the forest to get away.
"Way to go, Snotlout. Way to go." Astrid said coldly as she glared at the teen.
"What did I do?" He asked in confusion.
"Oh, like you don't know. Hiccup is your own cousin and you treat him like your own punching bag. And what's low is that you mentioned his mom." Astrid told him before glaring at him and walking home.
Fishlegs nervously shuffled on his feet before he followed Astrid's lead and went home, leaving Snotlout and the twins standing there with no clue what just happened.
In the forest, Hiccup sniffed as he sat against a boulder as he hugged his legs to his chest and tried to wipe his tears. Stupid Snotlout. Why does he bully him for no reason? It's not his fault for being born this way.
He sighed heavily as he just looked down. Who is he kidding? He's really useless anyway. Every time in every dragon raid, he always screws things up and always gets sent home by his dad or was accompanied by Gobber in what he called The Walk of Shame. He just sat there before taking out his booklet and started to draw a random flower that was in front of him.
He was busy drawing the flower when something from the corner of his eye caught his attention. He lowered the booklet and stared in amazement. Resting on a lone branch was a golden almost wisp-like butterfly. Staring in wonder, he always heard tales of something like it. Feeling curious, he got up and put his booklet back in his vest and went to it slowly so as to not scare it off.
But just as he was close to it, it suddenly flew away from within his reach to a certain direction. Curiosity getting the better of him, he followed it as it left sparkling golden dust that fades away. There were a couple of vines in front of what looked like the entrance to a cave and the butterfly went through the vines and Hiccup had to move the vines aside as he followed. It was a small cave but it looked more like a chamber as standing in the middle of it was a rock with some sort of symbol engraved on it as well as glyphs he's never seen before.
He looked around for the butterfly but it was like it disappeared. He looked at the rock and the engraving on the rock in curiosity. He felt compelled to look at it closer but was a little wary.
'Now why would that butterfly lead me here?' He thought in confusion.
