Hiccup made it back to the village and it was already nightfall. He just walked in the direction of his house as some vikings were taking a night stroll. Upon arriving at his house, he grabbed the door handle and opened the door and entered only to see his father sitting on a thick tree-trunk. His posture was slouched over the fire pit where he stirs the coal with a rod as embers waft around his beard.
Knowing that he'll probably ask where he has been, Hiccup tries to silently and quickly sneak past his father. He started to climb the stairs unaware that Stoick already knew he came home. Just as Hiccup was halfway up the stairs, Stoick addressed him.
"Hiccup." Stoick called him and Hiccup halted his climb up the stairs.
"Dad. Uh…" Hiccup said in surprise and hesitation.
"I, uh... I have to talk to you, Dad." Hiccup said as he descended a little from the stairs and Stoick stood up before he took a deep breath.
"I need to speak with you too, son." The chief said as both Haddock straightened at the same time.
"I think it's time you learn to fight dragons."
"I've decided I don't want to fight dragons."
The two looked at each other in confusion when they both spoke at the same time. Hiccup was confused about what his father tried to tell him and Stoick was feeling the same about what his son was trying to say but they know it has something to do with dragons.
"What?" The two questioned each other at the same time before gesturing for Hiccup to go first.
"You go first." Stoick suggested but Hiccup gestured for him to go first.
"No, no, you go first." He insisted as Stoick nodded.
"Alright. You get your wish. Dragon Training. You start in the morning." Stoick finalized and Hiccup felt his heart drop at that.
He starts what tomorrow?! Hiccup knows that he should feel ecstatic that he's finally gonna start dragon training but now all he could feel was panic and dread. He starts dragon training the same time he realizes he can't kill or harm a dragon! No, no, no! He can't do this now! He gotta find a way to avoid going through the entire dragon training!
"Oh man, I should've gone first. Uh, 'cause I was thinking, you know we have a surplus of dragon-fighting Vikings, but do we have enough bread-making Vikings, or small home repair Vikings–" Hiccup scrambled as his mind was in a panic on the entire thing. He doesn't do well under pressure, alright?!
But Stoick wasn't listening as he picked up something.
"You'll need this." He handed Hiccup an axe and Hiccup almost fell over at the weight of it but he balanced it in his arms.
"I don't want to fight dragons." Hiccup finally told him but Stoick let out a laugh as if he was joking. Earlier today, his son wanted to kill dragons but now he told him that he can't kill them?
"Come on. Yes, you do." Stoick said as he walked back to the fire and Hiccup climbed down the stairs still carrying the axe.
"Rephrase. Dad, I can't kill dragons." Hiccup told him. He wanted his father to listen to his reasoning about why.
"But you will kill dragons." Stoick said as he repeated what he said this morning which made Hiccup want to roll his eyes. He did say that only to have a very near death experience with a dragon up close.
"No, I'm really very extra sure that I won't." Hiccup said as he balanced that axe in his arms as Stoick stood tall over his son.
"It's time, Hiccup." The chief said firmly and Hiccup was getting desperate. Is this conversation gonna turn into another one-sided one again for the umpteenth time?!
"Can you not hear me?!" Hiccup pleaded but apparently Stoick wasn't.
"This is serious, son!" Stoick said firmly and Hiccup just looked at him as Stoick picked up the axe from his arms effortlessly.
"When you carry this axe... you carry all of us with you." The chief said before he handed the axe back to Hiccup before fixing his posture.
"Which means you walk like us. You talk like us. You think like us. No more of... this." He said before gesturing to Hiccup who was becoming very annoyed at being told that for the whole day.
"You just gestured to all of me." Hiccup retorted with both sarcasm and annoyance.
"Deal?" Stoick asked.
"This conversation is feeling very one-sided." The teen continued only to stop to see his father's serious look.
"DEAL?!" Stoick asked again firmly and with seriousness in his eyes.
Hiccup weighed his options as he glanced at his dad and the axe in his hands. Between going against a dragon or a wolf, he'd rather choose the dragon than the wolf. Resigned since it's a no-win argument, again, Hiccup just sighed.
"Deal." He said dejectedly as Stoick nodded, satisfied.
"Good." Stoick nodded before grabbing his helmet and put it on his head while grabbing a basket.
"Train hard. I'll be back. Probably." He added as he headed for the door as Hiccup watched him leave.
"And I'll be here. Maybe." Hiccup said as Stoick exited the house, leaving Hiccup standing alone in the house while holding the axe.
Once his dad is gone to head for another pointless search for the nest with a fleet, Hiccup makes himself a small dinner which consists of some chicken broth and water as well as some bread and cheese.
He absentmindedly ate his food while thinking of what Optimus told him. About the Night Blade being the one he's supposed to meet which was pretty crazy despite it being true.
He ate only half of his food before losing his appetite. Maybe he should turn in for the night and hope that it's all just a crazy dream.
